Here are my suggestions for Saturday's Handicaps and Start Times, tweaked slightly to try and make the finishing stages closer...

The field has closed up due to the success of GailB and GoldWolfie so if your Start time is a little sooner it doesn't mean it's harder, as everyone is starting a little sooner.

Any special pleadings before I copy them to the Handicap thread?

EDIT: adjusted rounding for start time when handicap less than 10 minutes.

Oh no - what a plonker I am. :banghead:

I knew it, and I suppose it was to be expected

Why didn't I slow down towards the end and make it a bit easier for myself in the future.

This mornings ride to the station was a bit of a challenge, and that was with the wind behind and downhill most of the way. Not looking forward to the ride home, but there again it's my boy's night out at the local, so I'm sure I'll find the energy somehow.

At least you can bask in the eternal glory of winning Thursday's race. No one can take that away from you (until Saturday...)

Darn, so itsSaturday then? Was hoping for more recovery time:blush:

Ta for that Geoff. Now if Bill is going balls out to stay with AAAC I am going to have to find others to draft and try and slingshot off. No way I can stay with those two.

Yep - Played 40 Won 1, pretty similar to the Wolves FC record that is.

They say success feels better when it is hard earned, and that certainly was - over to the rest of you now to take on the 'Handicap Challenge'.

I'll hopefully be there if my agent can agree terms for my appearance fee.

Hope there is a good turn out.

I'll be there and no doubt get my *ss kicked since I will not be utilizing the on/off technique. It will be a very good time trial test though. Expecting higher avg. watts and slower time.

I'm happy to start with @theboxers and @bert1971 ..... us three together will be a formidable trio. No one will get past us (there will be no space on the road!)

What happened to the weekly Chain Gain excuse. My excuse for this week is that a meteor slammed down on my garage and accidentally hit my front derailleur, so if I'm struggling on any ascents you now know why.

I've updated the second post in the Handicap Chase thread with Saturday's Start Times, so anyone who wants to check their time can find it there...

Chain Gang Handicap Race

Looking at the "on the road" times from last night, the grouping was quite good. Ignoring GW and Gail at the front and Whorty at the back, where the handicaps were clearly way out, there were 21 finishers within 10 minutes (and 8 seconds) on a 40-50 something minute stage. Not too bad for a first go!

So the aim is that Saturday's will be closer than this...

Geoff

Sorry if I'm being thick Geoff but what is the "net time" column?

It is your elapsed time minus your handicap, for comparison. A bit like a golf round, where you do a gross 80 but with a handicap of 8 it's a net 72!

The other way to compare would be to add the Start Time, 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

I find it easier to do it the Golf way, and consider the likes of AAAC and Jacob to be scratch players! :becool:

to be fair Geoff, my handicap may have been better had I not been off the bike for 2 weeks, snow locked in New York and stuffing my face with pizza and beer. 6 minutes slower really is a loss of fitness in just 2 weeks - quite scary when you think about it!

At least with my new handicap I'll be much further into the race by the time everyone passes me, rather than the first 5 mins of a 54 minute race!!

I hate to think what I've lost in 10 months and counting ...

I'm hoping I can continue to pretend to be Active 9 and live off (fleeting) former glories!
