I would be happy to make the handicap a monthly event, much like we have just done. If we do the shorter ride we discussed in the next chaingang league, and run a thursday handicap followed by a tweaked saturday run at the conclusion of the Chaingang League.

What do we think? I need to get Goat stages done and some cadence stuff, kind of end up throwing everything into a handicap race.

I think the problem for the guys starting last is that their scope for improving is very limited whereas the guys starting nearer the beginning are getting stronger and gaining fitness all the time. I was giving it my all but was only able to overtake one person and poor old LB was having an even tougher time of it. Not that I'm whinging or anything. I really like the handicap format because some of us have had it far to easy for far too long.

I was very aware of this and tried to take it into account with the handicaps, but it's very hard to allow for large over and under performance. I guess we have to accept that an early starter who has a good day will be uncatchable, trying to avoid this would leave too many people floundering st the back.

I was hoping that you and some of the other front runners would have the chance to keep with the elite riders for the final few klicks, perhaps we could tune handicaps more for this.

I'll have a play with the numbers...

You wll never get it right for all. But this is great.
Quite offten the chat after a thursday night ride is all all the top 5 guys. That changed this week which is better for the forum in my opinoion.
As i said before i was really looking forward to it and i was not disapointed.

Why not let this format run for next month - let Geoff make a few tweaks and see what happens.

Almost an impossible task with so few runners.
My first ever real Road Race was a Reading CC Handicap and as a 17 half year old with very few Road Race results under my belt my handicap was based on my TT results.
Luckily I had a whole team of 6 guys with me all who set of earlier bar one who had previous Junior experience with his club in St Albans (Verelium or something like that).
The team tactics was for the early starters to hang back a bit so we could all get together and TTT the race.
We picked up about ten other early starters and held of all of the Catagorised riders in the main bunch until two miles from the finish.
They were all a bit shocked that we were still out there and probably even more shocked when I went with the first early break for the line (non sprinters looking for points on thier license) but couldn't keep with them,
I dropped back to the bunch had a rest for a few moments then pulled the two guys back and then went on to come sixth in the sprint.

Shame I sold my pushbike a year later and bought a motorbike and then didn't cycle again until 15 years later, and that was just spirited commuting, and then my bike got stolen and so there was another 10 year break.

I'm sat right beside you... why don't you ask me!!!:hugs:

And no we don't.

That explains it!

Ah cool. Thanks as always for your efforts Geoff. I really appreciate it.

To be honest I think I probably need one handicap for Thursday's and another for Saturday's! (Just to make things even more complicated...) I do quite a physical job so most Thursday's I'll probably be quite tired.

Having said that I recognise all your names now as you enter the race screen so every time one pops up I think Christ I better start peddling even faster! The power you guys put down is something else!
Totally agree on the thur/sat sessions. I really struggle on Thursdays

Had that course been an extra 0.5 miles long you'd have had me. I was totally spent. It was only the great encouragement from everyone watching that kept my legs moving :okay: For some reason @TurboTommy seemed to have stopped before the line ... don'y know why. @bert1971 was much too strong for me, just couldn't hold on to his wheel xx(
I was nearly finished trying to catch you, when I did I had a go a drafting to get my breath back but couldn't get the drafting too well. Thought we were slowing each other down trying to get the hang of it, so I had a burst off and felt good today!
