LIVING THE DREAM
Bill, are you sure that's correct, Bkool seems to have logged you at 33:57.

Don't want to over handicap you!

My time is void tonight as I have a confession

Had a bit of a cold and didn't fancy making too much effort.
Did my normal descending warm up to get the legs spinning then signed in to wait for my start with 2 minutes to run.
All seemed well as I began to wind up my cadence ready for a flying start.
All this time I have music in my snug fitting sports ear buds, and then my start time comes up and I'm off.
Things didn't feel right and then I realised I was flying up an ascent at over 50kph, somethings wrong!
Ear buds out reduce cadence and then realise I have that tell tale buzzing sound of the stepper motor stuck on its bottom stop and so I am getting zero resistance.
So I thought its too late now so I'll just shoot off and try and pick up some passengers.
Failed with LBHifi as I shot past him too quick on a hill and Boblinski was also a struggle but I tried to keep just ahead of him to try and egg him on.
We weren't too far from the end and I had almost managed to pick someone else up with the intention of dragging him back to Boblinski and then my network connection went.
So I thought it would be a fun idea to go as fast as I could expecting to come back on line again and suprise everyone by being suddenly near the end but the connection never came back.
So basically I had a roller session tonight which is why my HR never exceeded 148bpm during my 31:18
Got off after and removed the stepper motor and had to hold the screw shaft with a pair of pliers to get it free again so I fitted a couple of small washers under its attachment lugs in the hope that will stop it hitting its bottom stop.
Probably pretty lucky I didn't burn it out but it has some form of torque limiter in it to prevent that which what the buzzing sound is.

I can explain this I've got some new shorts and they have got a really uncomfortable seam in them......
Lol, you found a euphemism so subtly camouflaged, I missed it completely.

Major internet problems in large parts of Denmark. I think I should consider myself lucky to have finished and saved my ride. Even though it died right when I was supposed to join, it was back a few minutes later. Right after I saved my ride connection died completely and have only just started to work again.

My time was 36:16 and I can assure you that those 283 watts were the most hard earned BKool watts so far. Man, if I can reach 300 watt in Bkool time trial mode, I will have no trouble qualifying for the real world championship time trial.

AAAC, I think you were trying to offer me some drafting assistance, thanks. I just don't think drafting is working, not for me at least. Break resistance is the same whether I'm right behind you, right in front of you or far from you. I still think it's the on/off thing that makes us faster when we try to draft each other.

Lars I did wonder why you started behind me when you were supposed to start about 2 minutes ahead of me.

Also, regarding the on/off riding technique, I don't think you were doing that before. I think everyone is vairying their power especially for hills. Only letting it fall below 100 watts could initiate the on/off advantage, but more like 50 watts when I was doing some testing of it. Also using on/off does drastically reduce the average power whereas you said that it increased yours, which it would of course if you were not allowing your power to fall off too much between sprints.

That looks good Geoff - it really is worth using the same route for several runs like this for the handicap race as your constant tinkering with the handicaps is getting us closer and closer at the finish - which is great!

Really appreciate all your work in setting these up and collating the data etc. :notworthy:

I knew you were playing with me. I wish I could generate your power/speed.

Adding another 30 seconds to my start time is clearly an infringement of my civil liberties. Expect a letter from the European Court of Human Rights.

This format really does give you the opportunity to pat yourself on the back, for finishing near the front!! Until you actually start analysing the facts.

When I consider how much effort I was putting in, and I assure you it was just about everything, to then see how much time the guys starting behind you have made up by the end, is just staggering.

We definately need to make this a more infrequent event, before my irrational and undeserved smugness becomes completely insufferable.

The raised eyebrow, rolling eyes and shaking of her head, clearly indicate that even my wife is impressed with my performance, and she hasn't necessarily been provided with the full details of how the race works.

It's a good varied course, but it doesn't suit my not so insignificant frame  I welcome the 8 min handicap, it will hopefully give me a chance to dice it out near the end. I just watched the faster riders fly by and had no chance to get on anybodies wheel.

I was looking at some of recorded results. I was in awe of AAAC effort up the first climb at 30mph (he has since commented that something went wrong with his turbo) It didn't matter as he flew by me about half way, ridiculous difference in speed. 5w/kg That is impressive.

I enjoyed the session and will come back again to see if I can better my time and hopefully pass someone

Thanks Geoff

Will do... I'm still minus a smart trainer at the moment.

I rode my bike with the power tap meter on the rollers yesterday and paired it up with Zwift, whilst I can't alter the resistance on the rollers how zwift software works it calculates your power, profile stats and the course and works out your speed - so on any inclines I would put in sprint intervals to get my power which in turn would work out my speed on the climbs. Riding rollers in a competitive environment could end in tears

Great to watch although i couldn't make the ride due to Mrs W making a homemade lasagne that went into the start time .

I was watching @insomnia and @Addski having a bit of a battle for most of the race which went pretty much till the finish, at one point i thought you were going to get caught @Addski.:bravo::notworthy:

somebody gave me a message of encouragement towards the end to chase Adski - I think gooner was in the name. Thanks. it did help - for about 20 secs. Then I died.

Yes that was me Insomnia, i was watching you as i was supposed to be starting at the same time as you but unfortunately didn't make it due to dinner being later than expected. Having never riden one of these rides before i wanted to watch and see how quick you were.....and seeing your average speed, i don't think i would have been with you for very long! It was a good scrap between you and Addski so i thought i would give you a bit of encouragement :okay:
