I think we are going to need a separate thread for taking the mickey out of handicaps...
The point of the handicap system is to give a close finish for as many people as possible.
The formula for setting the handicaps is designed to reduce the chance of an over performance resulting in an early starter never being caught by the pack and hence romping away to a solo finish, so initially it errs
slightly on the side of caution, as trailing in a little behind only affects that one person, whereas winning by miles affects everyone.
As you record finishes your handicap is adjusted and you are given more credit for each finish, as it is based on the best time from multiple runs, and therefore the chance of over performance is reduced.
The only circumstances under which a handicap should need adjusting is if your form has changed radically or if a previous run was unrepresentative of your abilities (due to a glitch perhaps). I am more than happy to agree a different handicap that will lead to a closer finish.
If anyone
really thinks their handicap should be changed, perhaps they could PM me with what they think it should be and why!
That way I can safely ignore the jibes posted here!
