What was quite interesting for me was watching all of your cadence rates. Are these from sensors or simulated by Bkool? I wonder if I am trying to spin too fast on hills and need to pack that up and push a bit harder.

Usually my lungs that control the pace rather than my legs so that might be the answer.
Well I know I do hills ALL WRONG! I get in a tough gear, stand up and duke it out all the way up, but with relatively low cadence. It gets me up there, but it's not the most efficient way. I should be in a lower gear, spinning faster, but I just can't do that and get the same power for the same amount of time.

Right Fat Mates, we need to do something similar to the skinny boys race tonight but on one of the really big fast downhill rides where a bit of extra pizza is an advantage.

I'm up for that, however it could be sheer carnage with all that weight tumbling down the side of a mountain.

I find if I use a lower cadence I have more power and heart rate is lower, there is a point though where my legs can't do it anymore and I have to change up.

It's a balance act between how much power, max sustainable heart rate and cadence.

I have sensors but i need to make sure i spin so it gets picked up by ant+ before i start the ride other wise it doesn't show when riding.

And yet I am the exact opposite. My legs tire so much quicker at high cadence, but I can stand up and grind for ages! Oh yes, but eventually my HR goes ballistic. Peaked at a bout 182 I think tonight, which is a bit OTT really!

Well done Rob. If it's any consolation I am dammed sure it's as tough as Alp d Huez.
Tougher I would say, certainly longer!

Yes, bloody hell, well done Rob, sorry mate. Could only see Bill and Rick B looming on my leaderboard. Another annoying BKool hangup. A condensed leaderboard showing more participants would be useful.

Indeed Kudos to you Rob for completing the climb. And speaking of annoying bkool quirks, the first session just started itself even though I was pedalling fast, so I was relieved when you both left that session and moved to the new one. Even that one started before the countdown finished so not sure what that was all about. No ghosts there either, which is what we thought was the reason for the phantom starts.

Pretty sure that perceived wisdom is to use a slightly lower cadence on steep climbs, around 70, whereas normally you should aim for at least 80-90 rpm.

When you stand your heart rate rises, supposedly around 5 bpm more.

So if your trying to keep your heart rate down, you need to sit down, I guess. Suits me, I'm crap at standing up.
