Ah ok, I had read it as the third guy on the road on the day but if it's pre-determined by the previous times you're right, a tactical re-think's required :addict:

(Tip: keep an eye on @Add for ideas, he's coming up with some genius tactical plays in recent posts ;))

So it's the third guy on the day so it's almost like we need to make sure the top 3 riders finish at the same time approximately. If there are 4 in the team then only one can fall off the back. My strategy would be to figure out the third strongest rider and have them drafting the whole way and then the last 200 yards have a balls out race over the line.

That's bollox Bill, and we both know it. I have two speeds, 'flat out', and 'given up', and that is about the limit of my tactical strategies.
It is something my team may wish to pull me to one side and discuss at length.

LOL Thanks for clarifying that Adam. And thanks for volunteering your services as the sacrificial 4th placed guy, which is an important and honourable position ;)

If there were 4 in the team and one of you is the third placed guy then that strategy is flawed. The guy who comes in third needs to be drafting the guys ahead at all times preferably. Of course it'll take some time before we get things working well. There may even need to signals to tell our team mates to slow down or speed up.
One thing I'm not sure of, is he 3rd placed guy the one who comes in third, so could be any of us? Or is he pre-determined as the guy who came in third in the "qualifying" stage?

But that's not way it works on real life is it or am I being stupid? ( reads back ) ok, I think I get it. I thought we just go balls out- well there is a lot of "bollux" on the forum lately^_^- and whoever is weakest eventually drops off, a hero none the less for helping the other 3 through.

Which works as long as only one in the team is being the hero. The third strongest needs to draft the other two. Maybe one needs to be in front most of the time. I think this is a race of strategy with the fact that it's a handicap race meaning that any team that gets its strategy right could win.

At what point do we decide teams? How many teams, how many in each team etc. Obv dictated by interest to some degree but no one who wants to participate should miss out.

OK, how do we go about sorting out the teams?

If I could suggest a starting point and then we can adjust if people can't make it, or others want to join in. No problem if others want to join in, so long as each team has at least 4 riders. It would be good to get a fifth rider for as many teams as possible.

Apologies to anyone I miss out, not deliberate and any Cyclechat league member is welcome to join in, just let us know here and we'll adjust the teams.

How about...

Blue Team - Bill, Bob, Lars and Bridgy, are you all in?
If AAAC and/or Guy wish to take part they would also be in Blue team.

Red Team - Adski, Tommy, CXRAndy, Kipster?
If RickB, Runar and/or Roleur wish to take part they could also be in Red Team.

Green Team - Monte, John18, Stuart, Soarerv8, Insomnia?
If Berty, Alfie and/or BenH wish to take part they could also be in Green Team.

Magenta Team - Bert1971, Ste Corny, JLaw, GoldWolfie?
White Team - TheBoxers, GailB, Kapelmuur, Whorty?
If Bazzer99, Rob, Jamie, Ramirez and/or Camlo wish to take part they could also be in Magenta or White team, depending on numbers and Handicaps.
These last two teams are a bit fluid, as it is hard to get four or five riders with close enough Handicaps that could make the Tuesday 8pm slot.

Once we know better who can probably make it we may have to make some adjustments.

To assist organisation can I suggest Team leaders are Bill, Adski, Monte, Bert and TheBoxers for the Blue, Red, Green, Magenta and White teams.
(They are just suggestions for team colours, as always feel free to suggest any changes.)

It'll be easier for the smaller teams to decide among themselves if they want to adjust things.

TheBoxers, it seems you may not be able to make Tuesday 8pm, so you could perhaps arrange an alternative time when four or five of you could put in a time, or if there are enough riders your could field a team on Tuesday, and have another go at some other time as well?

If any team is down to three riders on Tuesday it would make it harder, but it would still be great if you could give it a go.

I think it might be fun to try the ride together, but also to be able to re-run at any other time in the week, to see if you can improve the team work and gain a better time. That way you have the motivation of chasing the other teams live, and then further motivation of trying to improve your team's time.

This would also mean that anyone who can't make Tuesday evening could join in to whichever team best suits their Handicap, if the team can find an alternative time suitable to enough riders.

Perhaps the nominated Team Leaders could try and confirm their teams availability and try and ensure a core team of at least 4 riders, and any alternative times. Group conversations here would be a good way to discuss arrangements and tactics!

Good Luck everyone...

Looks like a hell of a good time -- but I'm out for this week. ~1500 miles away from my trainer and in meetings all day, every day this week

The earliest I could do a trial run with my group would be next weekend -- not for setting handicaps, but for sorting out what a sustainable pace might be. I tend to be all over the place and rarely slip into a draft for any significant time. Just a warning to teammates :-)

Sounds like an amazing plan but I'll be in Dublin airport on Tuesday at 8pm, tired and desperate to get home from all day 'smoke and mirror' meetings. I maybe able to watch for a bit if the free wifi holds out.

Enjoy :okay:
