I realise everyone is busting a gut at the minute  but when you've recovered you can have a look at the new Chaingang listing here:

Due to start tomorrow!
Great, thanks @RickB

Already dreading stage 4, and as for stage 6 - what the

I hope you'll be keeping a close eye out for anyone who "accidentally" forgets to put their weight back up after tonight.....

LIVING THE DREAM
It looks as though AAAC had a sneaky preview run and that is the result showing. Hopefully, it will eventually factor in his 8pm run!

Correct. I had ants in my pants and couldn't sit down and wait to get ready later so I had a reasonably relaxed shot at the ride at 7.00 and practiced the start about 5 times so I knew exactly which tree the 160 meters was and then stayed warm doing a bit of track work.
I too didn't see a hint of blue which I think is a good thing.
Although the start was a bit different I kind of liked the idea and if it was marked with a banner,as it would be if things worked correctly, it would be even better.

Here's the recording...

It looks like slow motion, I may try and produce a version speeded, or just watch it in VLC at 2x or 3x

Well done everyone who took part, it looked like quite a slog, having ridden that hill many times in Real Life, I wouldn't want to do it three times in a row at any weight!

Geoff

Thanks Geoff for suggesting this and sorting it all out - it was really good fun.

Didn't see any blue numbers all the way up and it seemed so much easier than tackling it at my proper weight - good incentive there to keep losing those lbs.

A quick question - What takes me 1 hr 15 mins to get up and 8 mins 12 secs to get down ?

Answer - Alpe d'Huez

But not tonight, as I used my normal technique as a cool down after tonight's climb, and it took me 11 mins 13 secs at my reduced weight - 3 minutes slower than normal.

So as expected, what you gain on the way up, you lose on the way down - but I didn't think it would be that much slower.

Regarding blue numbers I did see some, when I was able to spin up on the less steep bits(that maybe of been a sensation of easy compared to 10%) and then could ease back for a few seconds the blues arrived.

It was quite a close tussle between Bob, Berty and me for a while, mid race.

It was:smile: first time in ages my heart rate has stayed consistently in the 160's rather than 150's which says something about the effort needed to keep ahead of you two regardless of weight.

Can I join in too? I want to try it in a higher gear rather than spin as I did yesterday. Always nice to have company rather than do it on my own.

Bob, it will be interesting to compare, power and effort

Power/Kg handicap really does make it much closer race. ^_^ Oh and did I mention, I still cant believe I beat Bill S

And it wasn't a close thing either. I think I got an early lead for a few seconds after we passed the 0.1 mile marker but almost everyone just picked me off after that. I'm not sure why but it felt somehow slow to me compared to usual. I had low tyre pressure to deal with the slope but that shouldn't have caused a problem at the speeds we were going. My power reading seemed lower than expected which is a bit of a mystery, but it could easily just have been me not making enough power even though it felt like I was. Absolutely nothing I could have done to go any faster though. I'm wondering if I should put on a different tyre and join tonight's session and see if there's a difference.

Bill, looking at your heart rate and power, they clearly show you were working quite hard, I think it must be the extra weight handicap(relative) had slowed the speed down for you. Also you didn't use your high cadence saw tooth

Bill,
On your recommendation i use the same tyre. I have had a problem with the inner tube valve not accepting air so my psi was down to 85 on saturday but got it back up to 135psi for yesterday. No tyre slippage except for a second when i spun at 140 plus cadence when i misjudged gearing relative to incline. My cyclops front wheel support does raise the front very high though throwing weight backwards. For me the tyre is pretty much best purchase for the turbo. Perhaps you have worn yours smooth from all those rides up Alp D'huez;)
