'twas planning to head out into the real world yesterday and climb Little Cottonwood again. For various reasons (including surprisingly dead legs from the handicap ride), that didn't happen. So I ventured out today instead.

It'd been raining on/off through the morning in the canyon and I was worried throughout the ride that I'd get caught in a storm. But it never materialized. The threat is a good motivator to get the ride done as quickly as possible. I consistently hit my targets up through the climb past Tanner's Flat and was on a happy 1:32-1:36 pace. Again I didn't gear up when I got past Tanners, but instead focused on bringing my cadence back up.

When I got into mile 7, something happened that hasn't happened in a long time on the upper part of that ride. My heart, lungs and legs essentially said there's something left in the tank. So I dug in, essentially doing over-under intervals. Rested a bit through mile 8, then hard again for the last half mile. Final result was 1:31 and change.

Realistically, I think my goal for this year needs to reset to 1:22. That puts me on-par with the 2005 season and sets me up to break 1:15 next year if all goes well in the winter. Still not hitting a personal best, but getting in the ballpark.

Maybe there should be investigation into what made Add crash during last year's Double Devil ride. Could it be foul play was involved?

And what about Bill's wrist problems?
I think Bill's wrist problems are best left uninvestigated! You have got me thinking though, that 'where there's blame, there's a claim.' Reckon you could get me a settlement Bobski?

I would suggest that you start wearing a neck brace immediately you could have an undiagnosed issue that could affect you claim *cough* I mean healthcare

@TurboTommy - Thanks for the encouragement last night, it felt as though it was never going to end. I find that type of ride very tough ,and the graphics didn't help as they kept breaking up and there were riders merging from all directions.

To be honest I was just pleased I didn't screw setting the start up, and to get to end of the stage was a bonus.

There are a few rides to be approved by the admins for both the Bonus Stage 1 and Stage 2 from last night, if someone could oblige - cheers

Thanks for starting the ride @Goldwolfie - a perfect job!

I know what you mean about the riders emerging from all directions - that was odd! At one point I came across @bobinski on the road despite being a couple of minutes apart in time and we rode together for a bit - sadly the drafting didn't work though!

Not my area of law I am afraid Adds, but should any of you 3, in your competitiveness, descend into fisticuffs on the road prompting a police intervention then the first one to ring me gets my services gratis:okay: ( hastily retracts offer) I mean at a reduced rate^_^

Good to see us top three riders rode at around 80% today, certainly didn't feel like it!

Sure but my watts are so much lower than you and Bridgy. And my cadence higher. You guys just generate so much more power.

Bianchi have launched their first UK-based Gran Fondo, dubbed the Double Devil and touted as an ‘extreme’ sportive. The numbers certainly justify that, with the longest of two route options coming in at 121 miles, with 12,227 feet of climbing
The mid-Wales ride will take place on May 29 and features two of the UK’s toughest climbs in the Devil’s Staircase and Devil’s Elbow – which both rear up to 25 per cent. The Gran Fondo Bianchi will also take in some of Wales’ finest scenery as a distraction from the climbing.

Wow!!! Good luck.

I am in fact insanely jealous not to be taking part and so, for me, and in order to cope with my jealousy, it remains no more than a longish Sunday ride:okay::tongue:

Actually have a frigging great time. Stay hydrated and fed and avoid misshap:okay:
