Any chance a kindly admin can approve my Gowerton Start ride from last night please? I want to use this as an excuse for my slow ride tonight  Last time I rode d'huez I managed it in 1hr 11 mins .... not sure I'll be doing it that quickly tonight :heat:
No don't authorise it, he pedalled too quickly and I got a nasty email.

What can I say.
I been up that hill quicker 10 times in the past and 4 times sub 40 min.
Some of that may be a bit old FW enhanced but some of them may have been before they started beggering about too much.
My only 2 excuses for the thrashing tonite are:
1. Bridgy went faster than me (fact).
2. 4 mountains in as many days is probably too much for a 56 year old.
I was thinking of just sticking at 420 watts all the way up but my average soon went down to 408.
Halfway I was struggling sustaining 380 watts and at one point I put a big dig in to see if I could make up some of the then 2.5 minutes on Bridgy but a) I just couldn't make the watts and b) what I made was not enough to make a difference so I went back to 380/400.
I even dropped back the 15 seconds to the guy behind me to see if we could work together but it had no impact as I think he was on the rivet anyway.
At the end of the day I just got beat by the younger man.
Fek knows why I put so much effort in because I don't think I can complete all of the Chain Gang plus tip toe up Ventoux by the 29th.
Are we group riding Ventoux on Saturday at 17:00?
Well that's fair enough - a combination of me on a very good day and you on a bad one - understandable with those other tough climbs. Plus - and I don't want to go on about this - but the new tyre has definitely made a difference

I gave tonight everything, could of bailed a couple of times but stuck with it.

I keep getting the same issue when I stand up and cycle, my rear wheel moves in the skewer and my tyre rubs against the frame, had to climb off and adjust the wheel whilst having a right battle with CXRAndy, cost me over 30 secs

Monte you were too strong tonight even running 350 Watts you were slowly pulling away and soon had your 30 again. Great ride.
My on off battle was with jonbon, I caught him after a mile or so, he took exception to this and powered away to catch you up but then he slowed a little l caught up again. He then must of had his pasta delivered:smile:

now that wasn't very nice was it ! who ever chose that route ?:stop::surrender:
now just because i can climb a bit as bkool loves a skinny mini - i can also hit my thumb with a hammer - doesn't mean that i really want to ^_^
i came out my shed and paddled into the house and HID just looked , tutted and walked away !:headshake:
just lately i have been trying to get cadence high while keeping an eye on average heart - i knew cadence was out the window up a mountain so in warm up i got it up to 167 but was bouncing like a silly thing . i am sure it has helped though in the long term

Which tyre do you use bridgy?

I'm in the habit of using the old tyres of my comuter once I don't think they're road worthy anymore. Probably not ideal.

I think the main change is the speed dropping more quickly and naturally - particularly on inclines. I'm not sure the algorithm for calculating watts based on speed /weight /slope has changed as such?
Thanks Paul. Was hoping it was lower watts these days as I only beat my April result by 10 watts average and less than a minute faster. :pump:

I had been with jonbon for the first mile but was dropping off when you started to reel me in. I tried to stay on your wheel as I knew if you 2 got together you'd work well and lose me. I held you for a bit but I just wasn't strong enough.

It's a Continental Ultra Sport - I think recommended by Bill or LBHIFI a while back. I've only previously had one other tyre on the turbo (a freebie from an event I did) so I haven't really experimented with different options
