Bob have you tried adding a few washers between the crank arm and pedal shaft to move the pedal further out? Might be worth a try to see if relief comes from it. It can be just a few mm that makes all the difference.

Tommy, have you been grinding the pedals or something to aggravate the knee?

Not the old Q Factor debate.
I walk with my feet very close together even though I do have relatively wide hips so the narrower the Q Factor for me the better.
Hic!

I may of done Andy

My knee started playing up during Saturdays chaingang and then I probably pushed a little too hard on Sunday too. It wasn't slowing me down so I just blocked it out. I'm just wondering if I need to adjust something either with me or the bike. I don't want to back off! It could well be that I've just strained something but I'm more aware of these things as I get older. I'm used to aches and pains to be honest. I battered my body as a kid. I used to box and dislocated my shoulder pretty badly which hasn't been 100% ever since. I've also broken both my wrists coming off a bike, both my big toes at different times, and had a few cracked ribs along the way too. Some of these things play up from time to time but I'm used to it. I'm a bit paranoid of damaging my knees though to be honest as lots of people get problems as they get older so obviously it's worth trying to prevent rather than cure.

I'm very tempted to get a bike fit. I've not really felt the need in the past but I've thought about it a bit lately.

Tommy, a bike fit isn't for everyone but certainly worked for me. Short legs relative to upper torso and 2 prolapsed discs and flat feet meant I was forever fiddling with setup to remove pain and niggles. The bike whisperer sorted me out and his settings pretty much reaffirmed 3 years later when I got a new bike and free fitting from cadence sport in Crystal Palace. He had sorted my knee tracking issue with wedges whilst cadence recommended the longer right spindle. Interesting that 2 different approaches, his Holistic and theirs mechanistic produced identical outcomes.
And yes, prevention rather than cure. I used a water rower to compliment my cycling but broke it a year ago. I am pretty sure that aside from the tracking issue my ITB travails are because I did not keep up the rowing which I suspect meant a weakening of the glutes.

Bike fit is going to be on my Christmas list.
Our LBS has just got a new system in and I am developing pains above both knees and it's something I have been considering for ages.
My work colleague, who is old school like me (heel on the pedal and straight leg for the saddle, elbow to finger tips for the bars, had a bike fit some time back. Although it confirmed that the old methods still stand for the start point you need to customise them for individual anomalies.

LB, you need to come back to the fold to heighten up the challenge as Bill is obviously getting a bit long in the tooth and is letting the sassenachs get the better of him.

I'm trying but I'm beginning to think that the Chaingang stage 1 is jinxed. Yesterday I moved my gear to the living room, and had a go at stage 1. 10 minutes in I was still holding on to the leaders, but then I suddenly struggled to put out the big watts. Looked down at the backwheel and sure enough..a flat tire  .

Today I bumped my foot into a bookcase and I'm pretty sure I broke my little toe. Busy today, but tommorow will show if I'm able to bike at all.

For such a small thing, relatively. Toes give out an amazing amount of pain when injured. 2 broken, 2nd and 3rd, and one dislocated little toe has taught me to get my feet out of the :cursing: way.

Who's about later today for the re-run...
The leash has just been yanked. I'm on call and have just been told I have to be elsewhere this afternoon :cursing: :banghead::cry:.

I've been called twice in 2 days. Both times I've been in kit or getting into kit for a session on the bike .

I may have to factor in call out into scheduling sessions on bkool. Push the envelope for 5 weeks. Then take my week on call as a rest and recovery week . Trouble is when I don't expect or setup to do sessions I don't get called :banghead:. Catch-22 .

I'll be starting it 5pm as usual. Looks like there's a few takers + we have Bridgy's ghost as he's the quickest so far. Not sure that'll help anyone but Bridgy and AAAC if they're joining us, but I need to challenge someone to get the ride to show in the league tab.
