It was also very noticeable the way the different trainers reacted to different gradients.

.

How do you mean TT? I have some thoughts but be interested to know.

I thought you was waiting for me and being a carrot, trying to get me under 2 hours

I did wait for you at the 30km mark roughly and you shot past and built up a 1 min lead! I had to get past you on the climb and get enough distance before the descents at the end when I knew you would gain time. You were about 1-45 behind when I crept in at just under 1h 59m.

Because we were making an effort to stick together rather than dump each other I guess it's a time we can say with confidence we're putting in a power relative to maintaining a similar pace to each other. Myself and Whorty seemed to mirror eachother going into inclines with our turbos reacting identically, where as you fell back. I'm assuming you then put in more effort to bridge the gap to us rather than it evening out / slingshoting you. Also going downhill. It's harder to gage because of our weight difference. But because we were going relatively slowly and putting in very low effort it was noticeable that your speed seemed to decrease rapidly. I was wondering whether you were peddling to maintain a speed and then stopped peddling. This was at a time where I had blue numbers due to lack of effort. Probably on about -3% or so max. So to be going that slowly and watch you fall back was quite strange.

I think that's right. Gradients kicked in quickly and speed slowed and you would pull away and I would have to up the power. I was going to have a look at your figures to see what power you applied on the long and sharp uphill struggle to compare. Definitely no sling shot. And on the downhills, power carried over the crest into a downhill better and initial acceleration, whether powered or not, as the descent began seemed realistic but unless I applied a lot of power the speed would drop, at times even when the percentage incline increased. I think this is more a bkool/neo thing because I had a different experience in Zwift where speed increased as incline did whether I was pedalling or not and then eased as the gradient eased.

There was that little incline up to the last big drop, and I didn't have much left so I gave it my all to get up there; head down and pumping my legs (hit over 400 watts at one point!). Aim was to get up, roll down the other side then get off the bike and call it a day. But then when we got down the other side, you came past but didn't pull away, and I thought, he's staying out there to help me, so I kept at it. Had I known you was struggling too ... well .... it would have made no difference as I had nothing extra to give

Speak for yourself, I was pushing pretty hard for most of that ride :heat:
I do find that even on descents, if you don't pedal much then my time relative to others takes a real battering. Even when going down 10% hills, if I stop pedalling then others pull away quite quickly which doesn't seem natural.
I also noticed the yo-yo of Bob at times; one minute shooting past us, the next dropping off. Overall though, really enjoyed that (I think)

Good afternoon fellow chaingangers. Any chance of someone else starting the race tomorrow at 7pm? I'll not be around but will be there for the Saturday re-run.

Also a big shout to @Breedon

10,000ft of climbing yesterday!

:notworthy:
Yes thanks, was really hard work didn't get to bed till 1am, as the adrenaline was still coursing round my veins. couldn't get up for the CC Club Ride so sorry chaps will try and make tomorrow as it sounds you enjoyed it.

I've decided that for awhile I'm just going to do 1 league from next month which would be the chaingang as I'm finding doing 3 a month quite challenging and don't find the time to rerun any other stages.
So my times should improve from then.

Hmmmm sounds like a challenge :hyper: I could if spread over the day but probably wouldn't be able to walk the next day:laugh: maybe some training for the DD

One day (in the dim and distant future) we should set aside a day for as many of us as possible to attempt a bkool Everest. Pick our rides in advance and the first to finish the ride starts the next one and the others join it and so on...

I'm thinking of not running the Mountain Goat league after this one for that same reason. 3 or 4 leagues plus re-runs is all a bit too much. If anyone wants to continue it I'd be happy to add them to admin so they can set up and continue to run the league. I must admit to having a little more motivation for the other leagues.

HI Bill

Is there any chance a run on Thursday morning can count as my time as I will be away from Thursday afternoon to Monday? I take it that the run has to be done from the league tab?
