my OH may disagree...

your car doesn't run on bran flakes though.

Repair, MOT, Fuel, VED, insurance and sooner or later a replacement car.

It cost us £30 in fuel to get to her parents place! Though i'm happy to pay the £30 needed to get us back.

Cycling is my hobby, transport, exercise, entertainment all in one.

6 bikes? you lucky bastard!

And you have a Thorn Nomad MK II. kudos

cycling is my transport - I do not have access to the car during the week. My OH cycles to work once or twice a week and the car stays where he parks it and often does not move for 3 or 4 days at a time.

'tis 3 bikes each... tourer (from cycling around the world or failing to), road bike cheap enough to leave safely at work/college and suddenly found we were missing our mountain bikes too much, so picked up 2 2nd hand mtbs for £300 total.
Car (cost £2500 to buy) only gets fuel once a month £75-80 a tank does 600 miles (we hardly use it) unless we are going on holiday. MOT - not yet done, repairs well they were £400 so far in 6 months.
Our tourers were +£2,500 each... though they have not needed much in the way of maintenance to be honest. 1 new chain each, 1 new set of tyres each, odd inner tube here and there, his 6 spokes, mine 1 spoke, 1 new sprocket & front chain ring each, plus about 5 oil changes each - oh and mine needed a new gear shifter plus cables & pulley after they froze because of water ingress which had also caused quite a bit of aluminium rust to form £150?.
Road bikes: doubt repairs have come to more than £100 so far including new tyres. Mtb's needed winter tyres as well, so £50 (which will be going back on my mtb very soon if I am to be able to get to college tonight - it is snowing heavily outside and sticking out here in the sticks!)

In fact the most expensive part of the car is the insurance because we were gone for longer than 12 months so 'lost' our no claims discount of +9 years - the only company that would give us even a sensible quote was the company we used to be with once we explained we had simply not had a car for 18 months but it still costs us far more than it used to - guess the car might be winning, but it is a close run thing at the moment when my £40 per week of physio is taken into account (dog bite issues)...

Can't be all about the cost. touring even half way around the world is an adventure few will ever do...

twas exceptionally good fun...
hoping to get back out when my leg is good enough again... (and when finances are better!) either pick up from where we left off (and sacrifice our security clearance for good with some of the countries we want to go through) or head out to Alaska and join the hordes cycling south!

I agree cycling is cheap.

My most expensive bike is my carrera subway which cost £180 at Christmas. That is less than the cost of two car tyres on our big old estate car.

Though I didn't get on with the subway at first, I received great advice here and it is now likely to last me several years - far longer than the two tyres I put on the car recently!

No, my wife actually wants a road bike to replace her heavy cruiser, Well she actually wants a Triban like mine.:smooch:
Love is sharing Cycling with your loved one :highfive:

This is the worst possible situation!

How do you sneak that new bit of kit in when the wife is not only able to recognise the new part, bt also have a real idea of what it rreally cost!

Luckily I have the right wife ! I have carte Blanche to spend what I like, no need. We are sharing and she "gets" it! ( cycling, that is).

DCLane

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
SWMBO is getting :cursing: about me having the 'outdoor' bikes in the conservatory in this weather. Well ... it's either there or under the climbing frame *

* note that the two 'outdoor' bikes are the 'lethal impact' Ammaco Tony Doyle and a Universal Maxima kids mtb, both of which were free.

So I've stuck the MTB by the fire to dry whilst she's out
