Bring it on, add in some broken glass as well, just for lulz

Tubeless and sealant for me, I have picked 10+ thorns out of the inside of a tyre before, they have all sealed nicely.

That is why in winter months I always ride on Marathon Plus. I like knowing when I go out that I will not be sitting onsome cold muddy roadside fiddling with a flabby inner tube and tyre and mucking about with some mini pump. It’s bad enough on a warm sunny day, when you would still much rather be cruising along. It’s intolerable in the cold and wet.

I was on Racelite Hard Cases, a tyre that is now discontinued, I usually found they lived up to their name, and it was very rare that anything got through. These days I use Durano pluses, I did 4500 miles last year with two flats, one caused by a tube failure and one caused by hedge cutting debris, a 2 inch thorn is likely to get through most tyres.

I'm sure there are other tyres that are durable and resistant as well. I've just been sold big-time on the Marathon Plus. I have used them for years in all sorts of conditions and never had a puncture. Well - actually that's not quite true. I did find myself standing ruefully on the roadside once several years back, looking at a flattened rear tyre - an M+ - and feeling like a fool. Because the M+ is such a fit-and-forget tyre I had fitted and forgotten, and in years of riding and thousands of trouble-free miles I hadn't bothered inspecting them for wear; they were absolutely shot, worn through, totally my bad. I fitted new ones the next day and the old tourer's been running like a top ever since. Which reminds me....

I'm usually through a rear in about 12 months, normally I'll put a new tyre on the front and move the old front tyre to the back.

Yeah this is my issue - I really want to have some nice Continental's on both bikes this year - my Diverge being my training bike and the Allez for fun and duathlons. But it seems like if you have the fast tyres, you have to compromise some side wall protection?
