England 107 for 8 trail the Aussies by 374

Now the interesting bit to see how Englands batters do on this surface

Another bad day for England – Test venues in London have become home matches for the Aussies – Good bowling from the Aussies – Cook , Bell, Root and Buttler got good balls although the latter two played pretty rubbish shots – some headless chicken batting from Lyth, Bairstow and Stokes – the English batmen seemed to have taken no notice of the manner in which the Aussies accrued their runs – patiently – It has always been on the cards that if you bat with “self expression” then statistically you will come a cropper from time to time – however, in this series it has been when Englands bowlers have done the business that they have prospered with that policy – It is not that tricky to realise that if you are 400 behind with 4 down that it is time to pull your necks in and graft it out – something that Moeen for all his normal attacking mindset showed to good effect to survive to the close – I hope that it comes off for him this morning.

England all out 149 – Aussie lead by 332 – and enforce follow on

A nice knock from Wood 24 – A very good cameo from Moeen who was left not out after Johnson did the business

So Lyth fails again. Will he make the cut for the next series?

Cook needs a score too; only one 50 in the series so far.

The obvious thing for the next series is for Moeen to open - Rashid would make a good 8 - but it doesnt solve it in the longer term - or maybe it does if Moeens improvement against the short ball continues
