*coughs gently* You might find Birkdale golf club is in, unsurprisingly, Birkdale, not Southport

My comment was for all on CC. Many will not know there is an actual place called Birkdale but everyone knows of Southport (sadly for the wrong reasons recently).
When i played there the company put us up in the Prince of Wales. At the time it was THE hotel but it looks to have gone down the pan now.

Many years ago I was at the prince of wales in Southport for a 2 week course. Lunch each day was great I remember.

Having spent my first 19 years, less than 20 miles from Southport, the whole of that area has loads of memories for me.

Southport was the destination of my first "mega" ride, I did with my dad. Must have been 7 or 8 and don't remember much.

The other coastal areas, Ainsdale, were a frequent trip with family.

And on the way to Southport, passing through Ormskirk and the famous church, having both a tower and a steeple.

And also on the way to Southport, the Rainford bypass and the location of a very fast and flat 20 course, where I did my PB in 1969!
