Last year's venture up The Cheviot (Northumberland's highest hill ). No bike, obviously.

Rhubarb!

CastleHead Lane
Lofthouse

It’s one of those local government/post office oddities*, in that it’s in Leeds, but falls under a ‘WF’ postcode (Wakefield)

This is almost in the shadow of ‘Thorpe Interchange’, where the M1 & M62 cross

IMG_5764.jpeg

It’s very close to the blue circle on the OS map

* Sherburn-in-Elmet is another oddity, it's;
- in North Yorkshire
- District of Selby
- 'LS' postcode (Leeds, West Yorkshire)
- Pontefract dialling code (West Yorkshire)

Aire & Calder Navigation Canal
Altofts
Wakefield

I joined it at the site of (stopped/filled-in) Foxholes Lock, at the bottom of Foxholes Lane

I was approximately at this location, but looking north-east; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7419264

The M62 crosses here, between jcts 30 & 31, it was the site of this incident, where surprisingly driver & co-driver both survived

Pilgrim Fathers public house
Great North Road
Scrooby
Nottinghamshire

I know that the Massachusetts distances correspond to the settling there, the Netherlands, due to a brief sojourn there to avoid religious persecution
Texas?, I have no idea

'Rocket Site'
Springs Road
Misson
Doncaster

When RAF Finningley, about a mile, or so, to the west (now Doncaster/Robin Hood Airport) was a 'Cold War nuclear bomber base', mainly Vulcans) this was the surface-air defence unit
That's a Bloodhound, on the mount

Ron Ayers, the aerodynamecist who helped design Thrust SSC, & the (1000MPH) Bloodhound Land Speed Record car, worked on the design of those missles

If you look at the layout on the OS map, it shows the dispersal pads for the missiles; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4863765
The premises of; https://ljacksonandco.com/ (if you open it, the extent of the stock, & dispersal pads can be seen in the galleries)

The White Horse
West Lane
Sharlston
Wakefield

My original thoughts were to have dinner, at The Pilgrim Fathers (#1), however we were there too early, & although I did offer to return after Bawtry, SWMBO decided that we were carrying on
This isn't too far from home, but her & her business partner have been there before)
