To give this Accrington v Rangers kickabout some legs, you could get other teams involved and make a wee tournament out of it.

Killie played in The South West Challenge Cup against Blackpool, Bideford and Torrington back in 2010. Bit of a hike to get to, but it was a fun few days away.

You could get Burnley and Blackburn involved which would make things interesting and probably draw some decent crowds.

And attract those who'd be up for a 'ruck'! Blackburn v Burnley is a high potential serious trouble fixture, only to be played when it has to be, in the league or if ever in a cup match, but definitely not in a 'friendly' form! Chuck Rangers into the equation and we'd have serious potential trouble! Though I'd be more worried if I was the Chief Inspector of Rovers v Burnley trouble than Rovers or Burnley v Rangers trouble. If you wanted to add Celtic instead of Rangers then both Rovers and Burnley v Celtic would be highly volatile! I went to the 1978 Anglo-Scottish cup match when Burnley entertained Celtic. It was mayhem, mostly inside the ground, but also outside after the match. I do remember some Celtic fans pulling up the iron railings around the terracing to use as javelins, thrown at the Burnley side of the ground. I also remember a parked up and empty mini bus used by Celtic fans, blazing away after a petrol bomb thrown by Burnley fans hit it and set it alight!!

It's not the 70s any more... Occasional bit of aggro, but nothing like that.

It might not be the 1970's, or even the 1980's but football fan violence is far worse than it was 10 years ago.

Do you really think so Accy?

I suppose its all based on our experiences, but I smile every time I see thousands of fans queuing for the tube after the game, like patients waiting for their medication and hardly a word spoken. Doesn't seem that long ago they had to use the mounties to control the same queue, and whilst we thought we were having the best time, the local cops would have definitely described it as disorder.

IME there is a hatred amongst the East Lancs towns that goes beyond mere rivalry. A mild mannered Burnley fan at work would turn quite distressed at the mention of Blackburn.

Seconded. At the recent Wear Tyne derby (which hasn't been played for seven years) there was no trouble at all thanks largely to the levels of organisation from both the clubs and the police.

The days of large scale football violence, in Britain at least, are thankfully a thing of the past.

As I drove into Accington town centre yesterday Slick I saw I'd say 300 Bradford fans being escorted to the ground by 3 of those 'riot vans' with the protective cage type windscreen protector.. The plod had one bloke face down on the floor while cuffing him. Two coppers were seen chasing after a few Bradford fans running across a roundabout. According to reports some Bradford fans had smashed up a town centre pub, though these reports have yet to be confirmed. They didn't look like non confrontational football fans to me.

I'm not saying we don't have our issues, especially given they are well documented, but I just don't see any of that near the ground anymore.

Great result for the famous again tonight. Hibs made it tough as expected and rightly went down to 9 men. We now have injury concerns for Thursday night against Benfica, but we are capable of getting through that. March and still in the hunt for another 3 competitions with the league Cup already safely stowed away is not where I expected Rangers to be just a couple months ago.

Below is a photo of Bobby Moore's last ever league game of his long career, at Blackburn's Ewood Park in the 1976/77 season. I've taken the pic' off a Facebook page. On that page I read that the matchday programme for that game is worth £240. I went to that match and I'm almost sure I'll have that programme. It's just finding it in my quite a few boxes of football programmes that'll be a problem!

George Best also played for Fulham that day, allowing me to see him play for the only time 'in the flesh'.
