Ben Kenobi claimed to never have owned a droid before, so why give the young Obi Wan a droid? Of course the answer is toy sales... why else shoehorn two completely unnecessary characters in?.

Probably a writing continuity error. There's a 'famous' one in ST Wrath of Khan where Khan claims to 'never forget a face, Mr Chekhov'. In fact, the original episode Space Seed which told the story of how Khan & Co got stranded, was in season 1 and Chekhov didn't appear until season 2 (after the Russians moaned that their space achievements were not represented). So how did they meet?. It's not in the original TV show.

There is also a major error in the following film - the Search for Spock. Sarek tells Kirk that he "must take them both to Vulcan" referring to Dr McCoy (and the consciousness of Spock he carries) .

However, Kirk decides to take a detour to Genesis, to pick up Spock's body first, even though it hadn't been found intact, let alone reported at that time.

Nah, just badly shoehorning in some familiar characters to the prequels. At the time of filming Star Wars, Kenobi never owned a droid, and Vader wasn't Luke's father... Leia probably wasn't his sister either.

Kenobi also had previous for misleading statements, Vader killed Anakin.

He said he couldn't remember owning one, but then did he actually 'own' anything?

Also, he fought with and served (just about everybody) in the Clone wars, despite being a Jedi - who are not soldiers nor serve anybody

Does it matter if I've not seen Rogue One and can't remember The Force Awakens?

The Force Awakens is on Netflix now :bravo:

Anyone been to see it?

I thought it was very good, although not as good as The Force Awakens. It’s all relative though, as I thought that one was the best yet and this wasn’t far off.

Not much more you can say, without revealing spoilers!

Mixed feelings, but on the whole I liked it

I didn't like what they did with Luke, he is my favourite character, I had a hard time believing he would act the way he does.

That's just me as a star wars nerd though,I expect it will be a hit

We'll have to agree to disagree ;). What GL says happened many years after the event doesn't always tally with the known truth. For example, he gives 1981 as he altered the titles, but there are still prints in exiatence dating from 1979 that have it on there, a whole year before he claims he added it.
Up until a couple of days ago, I completely agreed with this... but then i saw this Blue Peter clip from 1980, in which Hamil talks about the final part of trilogy (at the time, titled Revenge of the Jedi) and goes on to talk about the prequel trilogy.

I was expecting this to be a remake of Empire... and the opening crawl only reinforced this. But thankfully it wasn't. Thoroughly enjoyable. 7/10

I guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks before discussing the plot in detail.
