Dogs travel free of charge on Northern, but if a passenger objects, because of a phobia or allergies perhaps, you may be asked to change carriage or even asked to leave the train.

Why not just move the moaning passenger(s)?! If this is allowed, some will complain about dogs on trains for various reasons. If they knew it was them and not the dog being moved or taken off the train they'd think twice about complaining.

Maybe you should read what you have just written. It does you no credit.

It’s nasty and belittling peoples health issues. You wouldn’t be so happy if the shoe was on the other foot.

Health issues?! What, exasperated by a little 14 year old dog! 😏 What about my 'health issues', such as my mobility problems! Being asked even forced to change carriages on an unsteady possibly moving train with a dog under my arm could cause serious problems! There you go....a shoe on the other foot example for you!

So when if when you were recovering from cancer and had for example breathing difficulties that could be triggered by PET fur, would you have thought it appropriate to be asked to move carriages because some would had brought a dog on board.
So it’s ok for you to play the health card but not others.
I wouldn’t be buying clogs if you’ve got mobility problems.

So what you might need appreciate Accy while you are buying your Clogs and Cordings suits that people on minimum wages are actually paying for your benefits that enable you to buy these things. Through their national insurance and taxes.
So bleat on about how badly you are treated when you can swan about spending your days shopping for new outfits while actually contributing nothing to the well being of society in general.

But seriously, I work part time in a retro clothing shop, as I often mention on this particular thread. I'm 65 years old which up till recently would have made me an OAP, not needing to work. I have significant health problems, recognised by my GP and indeed the state. I still pay income tax, albeit a minimal amount on my part-time earnings, so by your reckoning, I'm contributing to the benefits of others, many who will be half my age and below. Ah, but they'll be genuine, unlike you I know you will be thinking. Any expensive to some items of clothing, gold rings, watches, etc are paid for out of my savings, my part of the house when me and Mrs Accy divorced, and money left to me when my mother died years ago. Spend it or someone else will spend it when you've gone is my motto! Any benefits I receive go on energy bills, the amount of rent I pay, council tax and of course food. As for 'contributing nothing to the well being of society in general', you'd like to see the likes of me work till I/we drop wouldn't you! Here lies 'Accy Cyclist' He worked till he dropped, but contributed to the well being of society. Mmm, imagine that on my gravestone! I think my dad has something similar on his gravestone, but not quite worded that way. He worked for 49 years in the same place, even going back to work soon after his brain embolism when aged 58, then going back to work for another 7 years, retiring at 65, then dying 4 years later after just 4 years of retirement! Do I wan't some of that ?! No thanks, I certainly do not! Hence my thoughts after he died that I will not end up working till I drop, then die! On about serious health conditions, after my life saving surgery approaching 19 years ago, I was back at work after 2 weeks, complete with a feeding tube up my nose, awaiting radio and chemotherapy. As a self employed window cleaner I couldn't afford months off, knowing that I had to keep my round going, otherwise lose my customers to business rivals. I could've sold my round and 'gone on the sick' like many of my customers advised me to do, but no, I wanted to carry on working for my sanity and health. I hope this quite long post explains a few things to you!

PS..I've done many journeys not on trains, but on buses with my dog. Not once have I ever been asked to get off the bus or even move seats, due to someone complaining about him! So why do you think that someone will complain about him on a train?!

Probably one for NCAAP this, but Webbo does raise a fair point about striking a balance between supporting people in need and being fair to tax payers.

It's Accy's money he can spend it as he likes. As far as I'm aware he doesn't have children, no longer owns property and a bit of clothing spend aside, leads a pretty frugal life. So if he isn't worried about leaving an inheritance then he might as well spend what he has whilst he can enjoy it as he can probably fund his later years lifestyle off his pension.

I can understand if you are mega allergic to something, then life can be a pain and a balance must be struck. i.e "there are no peanuts served on this flight type stuff" but if we banned dogs from public transport, it might give blind people an issue or two!
