Oh and BTW that's oil Bill is cleaning off his visor whilst Maggie steers at 7 1/2 minutes (open valve gear on the engine) Her other job is keeping the fuel tank pressured to about 4 psi

You are quite right; that one is rather bettee !

Well, write it down boy ......
I used to be big into kit cars and loved those, the simplicity of a Citroen 2CV. A couple of years ago I was at a little garage looking at a car for my lad and they had one for sale. So tempted.
I used to have a Marlin Roadster in Rover Racing Red. Not that I used to blast round in it, oh no.

300km a week through London on a road bike.
... No-one who thinks of a micro-car should get one, when they can get a decent scooter or motorbike instead.
Absolutely. I have been a motorcyclist for many years and I couldn't do without it. Its two (bicyle) wheels, or two (motorcycle) wheels for me. I only use the car if I am forced to for family outings, etc. I hate using the car to go anywhere.

I've 2 motorbikes, but still - grudgingly - find the car useful. I wouldnt have a 7 year old as a pillion, and wouldn't take Mrs D home from whatever nasty MS treatment shes endured this week on the back of a bike.

I don't enjoy driving, and try to minimise the amount of car use as much as possible. A micro car is that shady area between owning a conventional car and being a lazy arsed motorist driving everywhere for every tiny little thing, and not having a car at all. It's just enough car to get me there when I have to drive, and keep me warm and dry while doing so, without an extra tonne of unnecessary metal and the fuel consumption needed to lug it around.

It's that extra tonne that's helping to unnecessarily screw the planet, the resources required to build that extra tonne, the pollution created in moving it about, the destruction of our countryside making outsize parking spaces so wherever people go they have somewhere to park their extra tonne of tin, the list of consequences of the ever expanding waistline of the modern car is endless. The current VW Golf weighs double the original, the latest Focus RS weighs twice as much as an Escort Mexico of 48 years ago, pretty much ditto the Astra. Bigger, fatter, lazier, dirtier.

And so I ended up with the Smart Fortwo. A very low mileage cabrio, with a full Mercedes history, and a fairly un controversial all silver paint job - no pink with yellow flowers for me! 698cc of mighty turbo goodness. I've yet to get through a tank of fuel so can't be sure, but at the slow rate I'm getting through the motion lotion I reckon it's returning very far North of 60mpg, which makes me happy indeed.

Prior to replacing them with a couple of Toyota Auris hybrids, our regular (& trusted) garage, where I have the Octavia serviced/MoT tested, had a Smart
It was remapped, & had the 'flappy paddles'
Quite interesting, but also a rather curious wee beastie

Mindst you, I once got this out of the Octavia (1.6 Tdi) on a run to East Midlands Airport!!

Once, we had a courtesy car from a Skoda dealer, whilst a warranty (or recall??) issue was beign dealt with, & we got a 3-cylinder Fabia
An odd beast that sounded so weird

I had a Chevy Matiz 796cc for 8yrs it done 400 mile round trips loaded up with passengers dog and luggage no problem, It really used to come into its own round the narrow twisty Dorset lanes down here and would park in tiny spaces, I've upgraded to a 3cyl 997cc
Celerio now better fuel consumption at 67mpg but not as much fun as the Matiz.
