We spent an enjoyable afternoon at the Pen Museum in the Jewellery Quarter in Brum. The kids got to stamp and press their own pen nibs.

I do like a nice fountain pen. I wrote my dissertation using the Parker my Mum bought for me the year I went to Big School.

Apart from the glossy coated greeting cards which get passed around the office, pretty much all of my writing is done with a fountain pen and bottled ink. At the moment it's a bright red Lamy Safari with a vivid blue ink, more often it's something a little more conservative with a nice blue-black.

I like the story (which is probably apocryphal) about the American space program where they spent a fortune developing a pen that would work in zero gravity. The Russians on the other hand used pencils.

I'm pretty sure it's apocryphal. The last thing I'm guessing I'd want floating around a spaceship full of expensive electronics and no gravity would be a snapped pencil lead.

I forgot about the Rotring Altro I own. It was an Xmas present from my parents when I was a teenager. It has an unusual stylograph nib. I found this picture of a Rotring 900 Stylograph, mine is the same but in black plastic.

Me too. Goody goodies like me got to be ink monitor - you topped up the ink wells from a glass bottle.

courtesy @accountantpete , the Fisher Space Pen, IIRC. Nice to have a pen that can write, however it is oriented.
That's more progress than a pencil.
