Lawrence Hill station this afternoon ...

The 4th ever class 158 there! 😀Our trip to the furthest north you can go by train was a success.
Kings Cross to Inverness,
Inverness to Thurso, reversing at Georgemas junction
Bus to John o'Groats and Wick
Then a train back to Thurso going straight through Georgemas junction.
Back via Inverness to Glasgow and down the west coast route to Euston.
In between we got the ferry from Scabster across to Orkney for the day.
6 days away in total and excellent weather to boot.

Ah yes, Lawrence Hill, where a class 67 headbutted a bridge there once and as far as I can tell, the general area is a bit of a dump!
I walked past this afternoon, & was very surprised, & even more pleased, that the entire mural is still pristine!!Saturday 22nd
'Memorial'
Market Place
Normanton
Wakefield
This is a very recent addition, as I have't seen it in the past week or so, plus the local feral youths haven't spray-painted over it

The section of the building to the extreme left was 'Rushworths', the local papershop, where I bought my Cycling Weekly
(with a 'railway related' building in the background, the Midland Hotel)

I know of the railways history, but not about the post office
At the time of construction, it was the worlds longest platform, at 1/4 mile long!

1970s?
I remember the buildings being there, but not in use (barring, maybe a couple of store-rooms?)

1975
All of the sidings/goods yard have gone, with houses built there
Every trace of a building is now obliterated (the road bridge is the same)
The pedestrian bridge to the 'Station Hotel', later the Flying Scotsman has gone, with just traces of the abutments left (now rebuilt, as 'apartments')
Queen Victoria stayed there once
