While travelling back from Leeds on Saturday & York this morning, I thought I'd seen LNER Azuma trains on the Ely - Peterborough branch line which is normally the preserve of freight, Cross Country, EMR, & Greater Anglia passenger services. Turns out I wasn't mistaken and they seem to be testing a diversionary route for East Coast Mainline engineering work next year.

Photo from last Thursday by Hendon Promenade, a delivery I assume for the old Littlewoods site development
It is the first time I have seen rail activity there. The rail crossing sign uses the old diesel/ steam train symbol. Puzzlingly there was a network rail 'incident van' there Friday. https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2025/0...ride-and-unveils-new-livery-for-class-66.html
