Sadly as a parish council they only seek our input. We don't get to say yay or nay.

The frustrating bit is the developerw give the big carncil money to improve roads, the NHS a bung to build health centres, and so on, and these big public bodies just pocket the cash instead of providing facilities. Can't go further down that rabbit hole as it starts to get pollitickull.

Similar here. They are shoving houses up at an alarming rate even although the health centre and schools are close to capacity. I don’t understand how it gets passed.

At the back of our house is 'Peel Hall Park' which is all green belt.
It hasn't stopped some big London developer getting the ok to build 1800 houses.
They have already ripped down countless trees and bushes many of which have nesting birds in.
The Peel Hall group gave complained to the council who have responded by doing absolutely nothing.

The land out of the backof us is probably safe

It used to be the chemical dump for most of Widnes and Runcorn

It was converted into a golf course
but apparently there were signs along the stream telling people NOT to get their balls out if they went in
(stop sniggering at the back - I know who you are!!!)

because the stream, and especially the mud at the bottom, were heavily contaminated with arsenic

it has been fixed - mainly by closing the golf course and dropping the stream down by several meters

but I doubt they will get permission to build houses there!

I used to play golf there (dim and distant past) and remember the streams with those signs.
So, a young golfer knocks his ball into a stream and he's going to obey such a sign, I don't think so.

The housing development at Baiter ( near Poole Quay ) was built on the site of the old Poole Gas works. They " decontaminated " the site prior to development but you're still not allowed / warned against growing veg in the gardens.

They do seem to be able to decontaminate some sites

The place where my wife first worked - known locally as "The BI" made cables
apparently they made the longest cables in the World

but when it closed the land was contaminated - with copper I think

so it wsa said that the land could only be used to commercial purposes

but there are now houses on a part of it but apparently when they were sold there was something about not growing certain things

which I am sure will be passed onto future buyers 20-50 years down the line!!!

(Liverpool also had the factory that used to make the longest ropes in the "World" - Ropeworks down in the docks area
so now you all know something you might not have previously known
you can thank me later!!)

On the housing theme. It's not my image but I did see this. Ribble Valley floods Boxing Day 2015. The houses haven't been built.......yet!

Locally we have Buckshaw Village which was built on the site of the old Royal Ordnance Factory. There's an urban myth that residents are banned from growing vegetables. It's completely untrue but many still believe it is.
