Good morning. Very heavy showers rattling the porch roof. I think it's going to be wet all day so the small one will go swimming with Nana, I'll meet them afterwards, Nana will go to yoga, #1 and Granddad to the soft play area before we all meet up for lunch. Possibly cinema in the afternoon.

#1SP likes Granddad to sleep in "her" room. There's a single bed with a smaller single that pulls out from under it. Everyone went to sleep. About 2.00am "Granddad, I'm cold" as she climbs in. By 3.30 Granddad finds himself banished to the smaller bed. How does a five year old take up so much room?

A generic drug contains the same ingredients as the branded drug but is usually cheaper for various reasons. For example my sumatriptan for migraines is often a different brand name but still the same ingredients.

Is this prescribed or over the counter? This is where I'm confused as I think generic only applies to over the counter?

No, it’s prescribed. It’s often just a bit cheaper for the NHS I think.

@classic33 reading the second paragraph under "What are generic and biosimar medicines?" Is this why you are so sensitive to changes? To continue the spare key analogy we all know the spare never quite fits as well as the original.

Good morning one and all.
All this talk of medicine is making me feel ill.
I am only on Omeprazil for acid reflux. I have suffered with acid since my teenage years.
Tha above may change as the Doc and the Specialist are not happy with how my kidney is behaving. I feel OK but various tests say otherwise.
Anyway..........
A Q day for me. Forecast is good so I may get a stroll in the park later (sorry Mo but i will wait for it to get warmer).

Today's prize for outright ignorance, stupidity and self-entitlement goes to Carl and Kate Pheasant of north London. They feature on the front of the Guardian under "We had no warning. Britons sheltering from Hurricane Melissa." They weren't warned before travelling last Friday about Melissa. How do such stupid ill-informed people survive? Carl thinks "getting off the island may be the challenge." Too right pal, too right but at least you have a home waiting.

There are others who are complaining in a similar fashion. We wouldn't have come if someone had told us." I despair.

Could you expand on this as I'm confused? I think a generic drug is, for example, Ibuprofen. My choice is to buy non-branded Ibuprofen or any one of the many branded products such as Neurofen. I think generic drugs are those one can buy branded or non-branded over the counter.

Like @classic33 I am epileptic but my situation is utterly different to his. I'm aware of my triggers and it's completely manageable. I take 75mg of Lamotrigine twice daily. When I collect my meds this usually comes from the same manufacturer but occasionally one of two others.

I also take Losartan, Atorvastatin and Aspirin. Generally these all come from the same manufacturer but can vary.

I would see the aspirin as a generic drug but the other three as quite specific. Are you saying something else? I don't follow the point.

My understanding is, a drug company has an initial “only supplier” period. After that, other companies can manufacture and sell a drug, much like you get supermarket own brand products. The “active ingredients” are (theoretically at least) the same.

Nearly 5 mile wander done in the pouring rain. At least I have all the gear. Waterproof jacket, over trousers and goretex trail shoes. Still felt good to get out.

The best example I can think of is Nurofen. That is the trade name. This product is fairly expensive. The active ingredient is Ibroprofen, which you can buy for pennies now that the other companies can make and supply it.
