Personally I think the licence fee is a crazy system that is one of those "It was a good idea when it started but not it doesn’t make sense"

Had dinner recently with a friend who works in television, he’s heard it on good authority that work is going on behind the scenes to replace the licence fee with a pay to view subscription model.

Problem is that the subscription will probably be higher than the license fee!

Because if they go that way they will get less people subscribing than lay the fee

Not sure I understand how transmitted TV (as opposed to streamed) could be restricted to subscribers, without some type of decoding device for each TV? If I am right (a big if, granted) that looks like a good business opportunity for some company who can produce and install 60million plus decoding devices.

To the best of my knowledge, it is not possible to remotely determine which free-to-air channel is being watched, contrary to popular claims.

Again to the best of my knowledge, the TV licensing people use a database of PostCodes and compare to a database of licences, any address which does not have a TV licence is targeted for further action.

I could be wrong, it has been known 😂

There was a couple getting delivery of one that cost $1.8 million

It is probably just like Drago's
minus the dog

I think his is better because of the dog

I have however informed SWMBO that we can;t afford one like that

apparently we can;t have a dog either

Probably another 10 years max. Presumably for some older folk who don’t have broadband they will be left without tv.

Terrestrial tv is tentatively planned to be switched off in 2035 (the last of the broadcast licences expires then) and itll go online, so if the Beeb went subscription thatd likely be when they do it. Tvs are now bejng sold with Free UK built in and no tv tuner or facility to accept an aerial in readiness.

I saw one in Wales that had a small car as part of it ..... press some buttons and the car slides out sideways.
No idea of the cost but can't imagine it being anywhere near £1.8M

One of these had a garage beneath the main floor which could take a full sized car up to 4m long

it was all rather posh!

Good Morning. Still dark but feels mild compared with the last few days, however there is bad weather to come soon "Brits face seven-inch snow blast as weather maps show exact date" is today's nonsense from an unreliable news source (that's not a BBC dig). You know how when you open Google it shows a random headline? On December 4th there will be as much as 17cm in the Cairngorms, accumulations of up to 1cm are possible in southern Scotland and North Wales. Snow in the Cairngorms, who would have thought it...............................I'll stock up on supplies just in case.

There you go. I'll be heading off to collect #3 in about 30 minutes. Traffic is getting worse and worse so from today I'm leaving 15 minutes earlier. A 20 minute journey has been taking an hour or more. We will see. I'll probably do a spin class or a weights session this evening.

Speaking of Google. Clearly there is concern over my personal hygiene. My search term started "should I clean" which Google auto-suggested to "should I clean my ears" .......................anyway I was really searching for "should I clean my Moka?" The jury seems to be out on that one. I'm still undecided........
