Holy sheet. A VP at one of Mrs D's old schools slipped over inmthe street yesterday and hit his head. Passer by tried to save him but poor bloke was dead before they could get him to Hossy. Only 40.

Please, please, please be careful out there people.
That's very sad to read. Its also why we won't ride if the conditions look dangerous.

Myself and two buddies were due to join a ride about ten days ago. Overnight temperatures were very low and we all pulled out. A few days later we rode with the person who organised that ride who told us we missed a great ride. A bit more chat revealed "only one person went down."

A damn stupid attitude to take.

It was in BBC news article. It was the figure they quoted. This was TV news. I think it was Edmund King from AA who said it(?).

OK. After asking the question, I saw the News, it was 22% of Driver fatalities were over 70, not 22% of accidents causing injury were over 70s.

Although I have no issue with eyesight testing, I thought that particular News item very poorly done, the "key" example they wheeled out to demonstrate the dreadful consequences of driving with defective eyesight was not even a 70+ year old driver!

I must have misheard. Anyway, it's still a worrying stat and there's no question eyesight deteriorates with age and I'm sure we've all seen drivers who look as though they are squinting through windscreen barely able to see.
Personally I think eyesight testing for over 70s is a good idea and when I get to that age I'll have no issue with it.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
The figure in the media is selectively presented spin.

The proportion of over 70s involved in smacks makes up 9 and a bit percent of casualties, whereas they make up 14% of drivers. So, far from the worst demographic.

However, the number of driver deaths for over 70s is around 21%. Hardly surprising as theyre more likely to be infirm, less resistant to injury, and less able to heal effectively.

Whichever way one looks at it, the most dangerous demographics remains the 17-23s, followed by the 24-30s.

Yes but they are so down on 70+ drivers that the real figures and reasons are drowned out.

It's even worse when you.l consider that the newest drivers with more training than we had and a theory test we never took are so bad. That is seriously scary

Just watching a TV programme about dunking biscuits in tea and which is best

Now - before you get started - I know this is almost as bad as asking what kind of lube you use

but it just made me think
One thing I do know is that the best thing to dunk is NOT a Mars bar
I knew someone who did that
and the way he ate it after was not not for the faint hearted

and he became a vicar - the CofE has things to answer for!
(worse still - he was the vicar to a famous school!!!! - not Eton!)

I passed the theory test online at the local central library when they started doing the theory test there.

Can't sit the physical side though.

Oh it was tea
or I think it was - we would have just come out of a University Chemistry lab - so what we had on our hands could have been anything

left an amazing mess on the cup
The Mars bar that is

Oh and you could always tell the First Year Chemistry students when they started Organic Labs
they had yellow fingers
one of the first experiments we had to do was to extract the yellow pigment from Turmeric
so - basically - like turmeric but the dye is stronger
it lasted for months!!

A good friend just phoned to let me know that her mum passed away today. Her mum was temporarily in a local care home and was due to come home today. It was somewhat expected as her mum was 98. The care home is in walking distance and when they phoned to say that the Doctor was with her mum she was able to be there in less than 10 minutes. The care home is one of the big national ones, when she walked to reception she was asked " have you got your cheque book?."😮😥

To be fair, you can make a mess on your cup if you get yer dunking wrong with a biscuit.

I passed my (car) driving test in 1965, aged 17 and a few months, way before theory tests.

I then took a full Motorcycle test at age 65 (yes, yes, trying to regain my long lost youth, it didn't work) this included both a theory test and a practical test. I was taking lessons with 17 and 18 year olds, I am happy to report I passed both theory and practical first time, none of the 17-18 year olds did 😊

They were still young of course, and, I wasn't 😂
