I agree with you on that.
I have just had mine done and the guy doing it specifically noted that I would pass the DVLA eyesite test WITH my new specs.
I will need my left cataract doing within the year.
Pain in the bum but if it saves lives I'm all for it.<
I don't think you're looking at this the same way as everyone else somehow.
Visits to the opticians must be "interesting", to say the least.

I am having my right eye done next Wednesday ( 14th). The left eye probably a few weeks later.

Yes - if my right eye goes - or gets a cataract then I'm off driving unless it can be fixed
my left has no chance and would be lucky to distinguish an oncoming tank from a cyclist!

but if it saves me from killing a child then that's fine by me
but it would totally screw up my social and family life - and that of my wife

now "some people" would refuse to stop just because their eyesight s too bad
probably the same excuses as for drink driving convictions

none of which are even close to a good excuse

which is why it needs to be compulsory

Despite my cataract, I can still drive with my glasses as I was told I would pass the DVLA test with them on.

The car and Mrs G have not been out for two days and I have only been out to walk Molly.

13 of us on this mornings walk. Glorious display of Mimosa at the side of the trailway. Popped in to M+S to pick up a few bits, wasn't tempted by this jobbie in the confectionary aisle 😮

Weights done.

Item on news that drivers over 70 years old will need eye tested every 3 years. Currently it's up to driver to report to DVLA if eyesight not good enough but now it's mandatory.
A good move seeing as 22% of all accidents involving injury were by motorists over 70, a disproportionate amount.

Do you have a link for that 22% claim?, doesn’t seem to match with insurance premiums.

The figure in the media is selectively presented spin.

The proportion of over 70s involved in smacks makes up 9 and a bit percent of casualties, whereas they make up 14% of drivers. So, far from the worst demographic.

However, the number of driver deaths for over 70s is around 21%. Hardly surprising as theyre more likely to be infirm, less resistant to injury, and less able to heal effectively.

Whichever way one looks at it, the most dangerous demographics remains the 17-23s, followed by the 24-30s.

Funnily enough, I shall be driving past the Piggery in Timberscombe in about an hours time on my way to Dulverton.
Think it might be a different Piggery as where i lived was on a private estate in Timberscombe. I forget the owners name but it was like a victorian manor house with a few cottages scattered around where the serfs used to live! I did one or two gardening days to pay the rent. :okay:
