Just been reading in the Independent how motorists can be fined up to £1000 for de-icing they car wrongly!!!

Wow - glad I read that!!

Ok - when you read the actual words then it turns out that the £1000 was for "repeat offenders"
and the "offence" is leaving your car running while not in it on a public road

I bet our Drago was overrun with arresting people for that one EVERY winter!!!

The papers to seem to scramble around looking for any old snow story as soon at the thermometers drop below freezing

but I expect better from that paper
more like the sort of carp you get from the Echo!

Is that saying that if you do it on your own drive you can be 'done' ?
Years ago (in the 80s) I drove to Switzerland on business. Came out of the hotel which was on the main road. Cold morning and i was letting the car idle to clear the screen when a load of school kids knocked on the side window......turned out it was ilegal to let the car idle

Thats may be the influence of its parent company that also publishes the Daily Wail.

I've dug out my old Danner boots, very grippy. Even then I dont go out unless absolutely necessary in this.

Yes, certain shoe soles seem to grip much better than others. I find for me any Adidas with the continental rubber or the Asics trail shoes with a vibram sole are both pretty good. I have a pair of Inov8 trail shoes with little metal spikes if it’s really tricky. I’d rather just not risk it though. I’m much more nervous now than I was even 10 years ago.

As you found out to your cost, when it happens it is so quick you have no chance.

The worse postal address ive had is 'The Piggery' Timberscombe near Minehead I had a cottage which years ago was actually a piggery and had been converted. It was a very nice cottage but really didnt like receiving mail with 'The Piggery' written as the address. So thought i would change the name...and came up with this.....'The Jiggery Poke' its a play on words! ^_^

Funnily enough, I shall be driving past the Piggery in Timberscombe in about an hours time on my way to Dulverton.

I saw it was closed yesterday but assumed it would reopen today. A real shame for those people.
Daughter and SiL left here at 04.30 for thier holybobs but are flying from Manchester which, strangely is open...... I wonder why 1 can be OK but not the other as Liverpool is near the Mersey whereas Manchester it towards the Penines(ish).
The snow seems to be very localised. There was very little in north Msnchester. On Sunday at 2.00 we had a heavy snowfall, at Ewood five miles away bright sunshine and not a flake. The lady who sits next to me lives on top of a hill equidistant between my village and Ewood. She said she could see exactly where the cloud and snow stopped.

A couple of hours later Mrs P was the other side of Blackburn. Heavy snow.

We now have drizzle, a slight thaw since 8.00 and it's damp and cold. I don't mind cold or damp but the combination gets right into me bones. Horrid.
