Just spent 1/2 hours talking to a guy in India, he said " the router in new and it has to settle down,
so give it until Saturday to see what happens, then call me back .....Bye.
I think there is a saying "don't pi$$ up my back and tell me it's raining"

Afternoon all from a now sunny Coventry , it won’t last 😀.
Car is all fixed, it’s very nice to have a working handbrake again which has made me happy slightly offset by being £250 lighter . It’s needed a new rear left brake caliper which was twice as expensive as a none Electronic one . The caliper its self was over half the total cost of the repair . Oh well at least it’s fixed now and I can moan about it on here. 😂
We have had a good morning today , gave my daughter another driving lesson combined with a trip to the sailing club , a coffee shop and a bakery.

I have no idea if it is valid or not, but, the Openreach engineer who installed our fibre and new router on behalf of Talktalk told me the “router settle down” story too.

I do assume there must be some mechanism for the Broadband suppliers to “adjust” speed, since the same fibre cables (and in some cases, routers) deliver the “entry level” 150 whatever’s as deliver the mega fast 1000 whatever’s.

I therefore conclude that the different speed packages are really a marketing ploy, rather than a different product.

That is total and complete bull****

but when some service centre drone on another continent tells you that there is often not much you can do about it

Just been looking at the BBC One schedule to see what we need to set up to record

Found something at night on Friday called "Adult Programme" - apparently we are not allowed to see anything about it unless we type our PIN in
(nearly said PIN Number just to annoy people - but I'm being nice today!!)

Anyway - we found anotehr one on Sunday!!

Seems like the BBC are changing their target audience at night!

so I looked online - the BBC site

turns out it is The Graham Norton Show!!
and the repeat

The Ru Paul Drag race on after it is apparently OK - but not that disgusting Graham Norton show!!!!

weird!!

I left home at 7.15 this morning and arrived in Bideford at 13.15 so that's good going as it also included a coffee stop at Gloucester Services .
I never went over 70 mph too but I have noticed one thing I don't really like but must accept.
I am feeling it now and am knackered.
A few years ago I could drive all day and think nothing of it. Today , I did 300 miles and am feeling it now.
I hate this growing old business.

I feel your pain.

30 years ago I used to drive about 60000 miles pa, fly up and down to London frequently, and undertake a couple of long train journeys every month; in a corporate role.

Thought nothing of it and felt fine.

Now, a 100 mile round trip in a day to my hospital and I feel blitzed.

I totally get the situation my broadband went down for a week recently and I hadnt realised actually how much Id treated it as basically an essential service now, and yet no amount of pestering the phone company responsible seemed to make them treat it as a priority for a fix, and it was hell for me

but your guy in India is just reading a script, and technically he is right, your broadband was running slow for a while because the automatic systems behind it were seeing packet loss, ie errors for whatever reason, so it kept stepping down the speed till it felt it was providing you with a stable speed connection with the least amount of errors.

Just replacing the box in your home doesnt instantly fix that. these automated systems have to spend time learning your connection is now more stable at higher speeds again, before they apply the new higher speed profile and that can take days or maybe even a week before that process kicks off or is completed.

Good morning all.
WOT! No rain today ??
Not enough sleep, I will grab another hour after breakfast is consumed.....probably a version of full English.
Well, what is on for today?
2 hours of Tony Blackburns 60s music.
My RSPB garden bird watch.
Some decent sport on TV.
A return to the carpet shop this morning as I brought a sample back home but it doesn't go with the (newish) furniture.

I'm tired just reading this.

I really connect with that feeling.
Without boring you, when I was European sales manager I would actually enjoy driving all over the continent.
2 more local needs were working London or Glasgow........I would set off early, meet the local rep' at 0900, do a days work then drive home. A round trip of 450 miles with a days work thrown in.
Now, a 40 mile drive to the Wirral is daunting.
