I feel better in myself when I'm more active. I can see where @PaulSB is coming from when he says he doesn't want to enter events, but I've found that by entering an event ( Bluebell 10k when we're in Scotland in May ) and following a training plan, I'm getting out more than I would had I not had that incentive. Sometimes I find that being retired and having far more time to do stuff, I tend to put things off, " Oh, I'll go for a run tomorrow, I'm feeling a bit tired " sort of thing.
Regarding overall fitness, I realised that while at my peak I had exceptional endurance, I wasn't really " Fit " in the true sense. I had poor flexibility and some muscle groups were very weak. I'm trying to do more general activities such as Pilates and a few light hand weights in a bid to gain more general fitness
The screens were tiny too. I remember when they eventually got a bit more modern and we got our first 25" screen we thought it was massive. My living room one now is 65" and I sometimes wish I had gone for the 75". Maybe our eyesight has got worse!![]()

Was Cockley Beck a first choice for start and finish point? On the exercise front I have noticed that I no longer zip along mountain routes with very occasionally a fellow hiker passing me. Now, quite a few people pass me and tbh I feel more relaxed and 'in the moment'.
This route which I last did in 2005, on a blistering hot day, took 6 hours & 10 minutes with my late, and very lovely, dog - pictured here on Ill Crag at roughly the route's half way point:

I am planning on a repeat trip later this year and will allow around 8.5 hours ie about 2.5 hours more:

The route takes in Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Great End, Scafell Pike & Scafell - a really great mountain day.

We got are first TV a few just weeks before King George died .I was thirteen.country went into national morning Only somber music played on the TV
You must have been affluent! We did not get TV until 1968 (I was 11), from memory, it was a 12" screen, and cost 22guineas, which was probably about 4-5 weeks pay for my Dad, at the time, so, more like £2,500 now, and, still only one channel.
TBH my least favourite curry. I prefer what I call 'medium'.
