Dogs :okay:
They possess unconditional love. They forgive instantly. Theyre empathetic and sympathetic. Theyre incapable of guile or dishonesty. Theyre always in the moment, not carrying the past or fretting about the future. Everything's always new and wonderful. Every place is always the best place to be. ^_^

'Liked' for the 'in the moment' comment.

I really like the fact that they are full-on at a moments notice and that they are very much 'sliding doors' characters.

Can't agree with the unconditional love and sympathetic comment though - probably one for a whole thread on its own. Their brains lack the structure for such characteristics.

Dogs, cats etc carry out certain behaviours for rewards - whether it be food, play, cuddles etc. Owners interpret these behaviours in human terms.

I loved my dog and cat, but after they both died over 30 years ago, I've never had another pet. Now I don't want the dog hair, the slobbering all over me and the floor, the smell and even if you can't smell them, anyone entering your home can. Then there are the outrageous vet fees, and the cost of food, taking them for a walk, cleaning up the poop. The list goes on. I can visit my daughter, see her 2 dogs, then leave....

We thoroughly enjoyed having our dog and two cats around but now they are all gone that's it on the pet front.

They are messy (especially dogs) and they are time-consuming and tying.

None of which was a problem at the time but not something we would do again.

Our dog cost us around £2500 pa at the time of his death in 2011. Insurance was around £850 of that.

All the reasons Sue or I never had dogs.
I am shortly going to enter a new universe.

I guess i might be a tad anthropomorphic ^_^ but do have experience of sympathy or something very close. Heres an example - i was very ill and couldnt get up, my dog at this time in the morning would be eager/excited/happy to go for his morning walk...instead of whining/winging that this wasnt happening he came over and put his head on my chest. This could be interpreted in different ways but i know he was worried about me.

Good service, original plan was to come back from Yoga, get changed and take my Good Lady too lunch, unfortunately the air mattress in her hospital bed developed a problem so we couldn't go, the mattresses get more punctures than my bikes, ten to twelve I'm phoning for the bed mechanic and was told within four hours, quarter to two I get the call from the mechanic, "I'll be with you in five minutes". Took him a quarter of an hour to fix it, so well done ARJO.

I take it that you've never had a Jack Russell, then?

We lost ours just over a year ago and we miss her dearly.
Are we having another? I doubt it.
We've had 6 JRs over the years and I don't think we could cope with the heartbreak of losing another. Besides, if it lived for 17 years (as they tend to do) we'll both be in our mid 80s and it could be too much to manage.

No ive never had a Jack Russell, the ones ive met always seem great fun and characters ^_^ It certainly hurts when they go 😢 Ive lost 2 but would have another as im accepting of the inevitable hurt but also recognising my own mortality. My first dog 'Wilf' i buried and said aloud " dont worry I'll be along shortly" :okay:

Pro dog, love 'em.

Ours died and we can't do the end of life thing again, so we no longer have one.

They do stink and make a house smell.

Also, anyone who lets one sleep on their bed is beyond disgusting imo.

I have 2 poodles , they dont smell at all but require a lot of clipping by me , dogs give a lot of affection ( as do some cats also) but are a commitment , kinda like kids .
