Quick sarnie and cuppa for lunch then went up the street to collect my specs as they were ready.

It was very cold and raw earlier but it didn’t feel quite as bad now. I think I’ll just have a chilled afternoon as my feet are a bit sore after doing lots of miles the last two days.

Totally agree. They keep saying us oldies see the past with rose tinted glasses, but I can’t help thinking we all cared for each other and showed more respect thirty or forty years ago.

Perhaps, it is just that we have more “news” these days? But, I recall, when I was about 12 (1959), there was a youth stabbed to death, in the town where we lived. Everyone in our neighbourhood was horrified, now, I suspect such an event would not even raise an eyebrow.

We have a warm bright and sunny day, very spring like, we've been out for a short walk and a spot of lunch, washings on, beds are being changed, we're down the club later for bingo and a gossip.

I have a very fine new fence on my allotment. Rather pleased with myself on that small triumph.

When I was a lad once a month we would go to my grandmother's for Sunday lunch. We used to drive past Secrett's at Milford which at the time sold garden sheds, fences etc.

Now this was rural Surrey mid 60s.

Outside the entrance was a huge sign advertising:
