Retirement i am thinking of getting a job.At least you can have a ciggie break or a sneaky coffee or two.Now i have been busy. This painting lark comes to an end tomorrow.Yes it has taken that long.Living room is finished apart from a little bit of skirting board which i dabbed some emulsion on.The staircase or two thirds will be finished Saturday afternoon,i just have four doors four door frames and two window bottoms to finish. There was a rest of four days as we went to Nottingham for a church gathering, the weather was superb.Going on a train was fabulous.I really enjoyed the break. Now father in law has done his first week in the care home here in Leeds.Next Saturday he will be here.Carpets go down on the sixth.Seventh or eighth furniture comes from his former home to here.Stairlift is a problem we cannot get anyone to dismantle transfer it to Leeds and put back up.So it is looking like a visit round the corner to our disability shop and buy a second hand one and they will fit it.So things have started to come to a close. The painting has been a chore at the end,it just went on and on.Three and four coats of paint depending if i brushed it out too much, plus i nearly forgot two teeth removed yesterday they had an infection under them.I was awake early hours Monday and Tuesday morning with toothache in the hotel in Nottingham.Toothache is not nice.So not quite ready for a rest, next week furniture to be sorted and some of our stuff to be given away.Got to say it will all be worth it once he gets here and we can feed him up and take him out,but his pnumonia has set him back he looks old and tired.Oh and i nearly forgot £310 today for a plumber, out with our taps in with mixer taps with a showerhead attachment so we can wash his hair and new gubbins for the toilet flush which would not stop running so father in law won;'t have to worry if he did not hear it.Only one gripe the plumber cracked the bath panel in four places.I should have taken it off but i was too busy.Later methinks a replacement might go on.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Ebikes are for old people you know.

It's OK. I'm only pretending to be old, and I have my fingers crossed as well

You deducted the cost of replacing the panel he cracked from his bill I hope.

Evening all. Thought we would make the best of the last of this bit of good weather. Out came the cycle carrier, on went the bikes and off we went to pitsford reservoir ( which is only 35 minutes away ) for a nice little bimble and a picnic and a coffee. We were thinking of having lunch at the cafe, it’s a good job we didn’t as they weren’t serving hot food .
Really enjoyed it as we havnt done this type of thing for at least a couple of years. It’s nice to be back cycling even if I am not doing the mileage that I used to do . 😀

Apparently we had to go to Warrington Next today

for some thing else needed for The Wedding

seemed to come away with 5-6 things that were not wedding tings on top of the advertised reason fro the trip!!

anyway - got home early afternoon so managed a quick ride out
only 12 miles or so but according to Strava I broke 2 personal bests

no idea how as I wasn;t pushing it at all in those areas and on one there was a head wind!!

for those that are blaming the ebike - it was on the lowest assist setting - as it pretty much always is - but as the average speed was over the motor cutoff then most of it must have been non assisted
probably anyway

either that or I am getting fitter - which is highly unlikely!!

I have now read through umpteen pages of this thread and I am more or less up to speed with your respective lives.

An update for you, the least I can do for you fellow sharers.

Clearly AML is a hefty illness but I am in a great hospital and a fantastic specialised haematology ward. The care levels are superb, my isolation room is really good the food is also really good.

Full chemo' kicks in next week.

Estimated time in hospital is 4 months-ish.

I'm feeling positive.

So, life has changed and we have dumped everything, in effect cleared the decks, to tackle this total 'out of the blue' bombshell.

One morning you wake up enjoying a great life with some mild fatigue and literally within 24 hours you are staring down the barrel of a very big gun. I am very ill but do not really feel ill at all - only noticeable symptom is being down on power for walking and climbing stairs. Although blood transfusions are helping on that front. No wonder my recent average speeds were down by around 40%! I had simply put it down to a long lay-off from cycling.

As ever Mrs SD is being incredibly, stoic, caring and supportive in our combined effort to get through this difficult time. Crikey, how I love this girl!

I'll keep you posted now and then but will not be writing an online diary.

All the best to all of you.
