Only been once
a cruise from Vancouver up the Alaskan coast on a cruise ship

amazing cruise and the views were just unbelievable

but we had to "enter the USA" because the ship stopped off at US ports

we were warned it could take a long time

we were sitting in a huge warehouse on very basic chairs for about 5 hours

and the immigration official seemed to think we should be shot because I had not separated 2 parts of a form judging by his attitude

we will not be going back unless there is a damn good reason
there are a couple of bucket list things that we would like to do - such as an autumn trip following the changing of the leaves in Vermont (or wherever it is)

but there are too many other bucket list things we want to do in countries that are not so aggressive to visitors

In my "work days" I passed through USA en-route to somewhere else, several times. Also, visited three times, Florida, Texas, Milwaukee. One of my grandsons was actually born there. I always thought it (USA) a very interesting place, with people who were much more polite than I imagined they would be (based on Hollywood Movies), but, even all those years ago, Border Force/Immigration were a separate breed. Not a place I would want to live "permanently".

Unlike the TV licence its worth every penny.

I think it is also on Netflix or Prime, not sure which one.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
We have been busy. Once the fire was cleaned, an the firebricks replaced, we decided to empty the small pond at the front of the house. It was very stinky and smelly. It hadn't been cleaned properly for about 20 years

There aren't any fish in it, we took them out and put them in the big pond.

I am now pooped

SO things from today
took bike to LBS to get the rear brakes fixed
pulling on the brake lever was more like a polite suggestion that maybe slowing down would be nice - than an actual retardation event

anyway - he changed the brake blocks (disc brakes) and that has improved things a lot
Just as well as I went for a ride and as I passed a T-junction - on the main road - 2 riders came out of the side road, which was uphill, and the lead bloke just didn;t look right and we nearly collided
my brakes saved him as I would have been hitting him straight on into his side!!

anyway - all good now

AND

there are now clearly peopel living next door but two
it is owned by a care company and there used to be people living there with carers coming and going but always someone there to look after them

anyway - it has been empty for several years which seemed a shame
but they have been doing things there for a few weeks and it looks like they have new residents
which is good!

ALSO - the house next door but 2 the other way has had a For Sale sign out side for about 6 months
and today I noticed it has changed to SOLD

so looks like there will soon me new people in the close on both sides!!

That’s because he’s not going to raise taxes for “working people”. Didn’t promise that for “everyday people”…

The problem is that if we want to be part of society it has to paid for, I’m not adverse to a universal increase in income tax if it’s used to fund a better NHS, police, infrastructure etc. Just wish Labour would be more honest about it.
