Is it a free app or do you have to pay a monthly subscription?

almost came a cropper yesterday!
i was 'hovering' with feet in toe clips waiting for a motorhome to pass before joining the road, what i didnt see was a car a couple of feet off its bumper oops! i swerved [inelegantly] to avoid a collision. I could blame the impatient car driver glued to the back of the MH so i couldnt see it....but it was my mistake and its been noted n stored in my 'dont do stupid things and die' lists.
I would be cautious with the " what 3 words " app as it is inherently flawed, contains homophones/ plurals etc, and is susceptible to mispronunciation, regional accents etc.
There are several articles that have pointed this out, here's one of many.

I had personal experience of this when I fell and suffered an immobilising fracture. An ambulance was called and given the " what 3 Words " identification but turned up in the wrong location. It was finally resolved with the correct location being radioed through to the ambulance which arrived half an hour later.
The two times I've used w3w in an emergency situation; once, the police despatcher pluralised a word I'd said; lane not lanes I corrected him. The other time there was no problem.
Overall, it's a good system even though it can be a bit flawed (what system isn't!?)
OS locate is probably better in off-piste situations, I reckon.
