@Cunobelin Aalesund is amazingly pretty place. I spent a week there at the Company HQ. Well worth the climb up to the cafe at the top of the hill overlooking the place - I think the view has been used as a wallpaper for Windows (or something) in the past. I was there during the week the National Day is held in May(ish),the entire town turns up to parade through the place. The Company had seats in the football club ground - the stand over the other side from them was framed by snow capped mountains in the distance.

edit. Aalesund FK only play on artificial grass as the season isn't long enough for any real grass to grow properly. The away section had both seated and standing areas. You just go into whichever one you fancy, if you get a bit tired you can go have a sit down.

Sometimes, the littlest things mean the most.
Most of my fun at University was centered on these, and, of course, bicycles as well.
The Sunfish was a fantastic little boat that could handle just about anything.

I played a (very) small role in getting these two large items together a few years ago, an interesting few days:smile:.

Danish sail training ship Den Store Biorn in Tommy Nielsen's yard at Gloucester. The yards is one of the world's leading facilities for repairing old sailing ships and a national treasure.
I like popping up to the docks now and then to see what's in their dock. The Earl of Pembroke (pic from @User13710 of her further up this thread) was in dock last year (or the year before?). Gloucester had a mini Tall Ships event last summer, and if you bought the ticket that allowed you onto the ships you could go down into the dry dock. A bit disconcerting to see some of the rotting hull planking that was being replaced! Sadly, I can't remember which ship was in their dry dock at the time. Might have been the Earl of P.

My friend's son often spent winter months there doing very dull maintenance stuff like caulking. Not inspiring but at least it's a living and accommodation when there's no sailing available.
Fiddly work with the hands outdoors in the winter sounds a pretty dire fill-in job! But with the reward of helping to keep some of these lovely old ships afloat.

My ship is broken!

Supposed to be sailing from Bergen tomorrow on the Kong Harald, but apparently she has problems after bad weather

So I am staying in Bergen tomorrow, then flying to Trondheim and picking up a ship from Trondheim on Tuesday

Can't fault the company. Fully informed, transfers and hotels arranged and updates.

Shame the first day is by plane as oposed to ship though

It rains in Bergen. A lot. Something to do with being surrounded by hills. Anyway, a weary traveler gets off the plane at Bergen. "Tell me" he says to a small boy. "Does it ever stop raining here?" "I don't know mister. I'm only six."
