I picked up some spanners which were lying on our lawn and I could hardly hold them !

Getting into my car yesterday my foot suddenly wouldn't move. I lifted it eventually to see my shoe had stuck itself to melted road tar.

There have been warnings about taking dogs for walks in this heat. Walking dogs on hot tarmac pavements can cause burnt paws it says. On Friday I thought I'd try it out. I took my summer shoes off and walked barefoot on a tarmac path. I managed to do about 10 steps, before having to stride onto the grass verge.

Our gazebo is under the shade of a large oak tree, it's hot in the shade of the shade.
