Smartphones. Step out the door and at least one in four people you see will be walking up the road, hand extended forward, head facing down, glued to the screen of their hypno box. It demonstrates an utter lack of self control and zero willpower.

What's that all about?

Sorry, but there's no way I'm giving up my Wi-Fi, iPhone, Sky+ and streamed music to go back to phone boxes and tape! Viva la Tech Revolucion! ^_^ (Oh, and I'm much nearer the big 50 than you @Smithbat ;))

famalam - having heard some schoolkids say it repeatedly whilst waiting for a bus, I Googled it and was advised by the Urban Dictionary that is means - family, close friend.

... and was the better quality system of the two, but JVC's VHS format gained a larger market share and Betamax had pretty much died a death by the end of 1981.

It lived on though as Betacam, developed from Betamax (but not compatible with it), which became a professional broadcasting industry standard and was still around long after VHS has been replaced by the DVD. </geekmode>
Don't get me wrong, I love my tech too, Android not iphone and Virgin not sky, but I just don't understand why you would need to talk to your washing machine or fridge.

Do you good folks also often enter a room and then find yourself unable to remember what you came for?

(I decided the thread needed more Abe Simpson.)
Always!

You're obviously not like the rest of us normal people who put their clothes in the washing machine, fill it with softner and powder, and then leave the house and set it going via smartphone two hours later ...

I don't get the whole 'smart' thing either. British Gas have been pushing the Hive system to homeowners for some time now as a benefit for the homeowner, when it's actually a way for them to - a) save on meter reading expenses - and b) fulfil their responsibility to fit smart meters to their customers properties. They'll be tagging on 'extras' before too long and offering subscriptions for servicing of the Hive system and its ancillary bits and bobs.

Cynic? Moi?

People that live in a council house subsidised by the state, yet who can afford a new £60,000 Range Rover drive way ornament.

What's that all about?

I never understood why people programmed their videos using the actual machine when you could do it with the remote control.

I noticed the other day that there is a setting on my Virgin box to define how much extra recording it should do for each program - I assumed all programming had a digital code embedded so the recorders coped with over-runs automatically now,
