Things some idiot got wrong and now can't be put right

Electronics is quite a hard subject, but it would be a little easier if current flowed the same direction as electrons. Unfortunately, Benjamin Franklin had a 50-50 chance of getting it right and he got it wrong. It would have been worth the bother of nominating the charge on electrons as positive when it was discovered they were the primary charge characters, but now it's too late.

Wires on three pin plugs: whose bright idea was it to colour the live wire brown and the earth wire green and yellow? Blue for neutral sort of makes sense, but earth should be brown and live should be green or maybe red. Why give the earth wire the most vivid colours when it's not always necessary anyway.

I'm colour blind so all my plugs are a sort of smoky charred smelly plastic black colour .

My Grandfather spent his entire career as an electrician with the Southern Electricity Board without confessing he was colour blind. He helped wire up the Isle of Wight and their electrics seemed to be OK.

Not a problem now . Can be red green colour blind and work as a 'trician

Colour blind people can't see red..

I am colour blind and I now just realise that some plugs that come with a red wire are really brown

So those with "true "colour blindness can see the stripe . If you get the brown and blue mixed up it's not generally too much of a big deal . Get the brown and stripe mixed up and it could be fatal .

Yeah, if countries like Sweden can switch from driving on the left to on the right, with all the aggravation that involved, or if America switched from driving on the left to right because Henry Ford refused to make cars with right hand drive, why can't we make electrons positive and protons negative?
