I have read about it, and apparently it hasn't aged well so I don't feel like I'm missing out.

I don't think I've ever sat down and watched an entire episode of Friends but somehow I know the names of all the characters.

I guess it depends how much time you spent indoors watching USA or UK TV in your 20s. I was late 20s in 1994 when it was first shown. I was out a lot back then, and working abroad, and not in the USA.
