You have to fill in a MS Word form and return it. How do you manage to remove the borders, merge the boxes and generally faff up the formatting every single time?!

For a while - quite a while - I was applying for jobs

Most of the jobs I was after were either IT technician or an IT system person

A lot of the application form was a right mess - often pdf files that you were supposed to fill in and return
but there was no way to do it other than print it out
fill it in by pen
then scan or photograph it

I generally changed the pdf to a Word document, changed the boxes so they could be typed into
then filled it in properly - changing the margins and borders and header and trailers where necessary so it all worked

I got several compliments at interviews about how good my application form looked

a few of them commented that they had included me on the interview list just because I had taken the initiative to actually do it properly
and that they were intending to use that as the application form in future

I asked and apparently most of the ones they got back were hand written

mind you - none of them actually gave me a job!

In a similar vein, a good few years ago, we were having business cards printed. There was very much a house style for the cards, eg you could be Doctor such and such, and I think chartered engineer was also allowed, but not append a mere BSc. For some bizarre reason back we weren't (back then) allowed to have email addresses on our business cards. One colleague made a bit of a fuss and it still got rejected so he said there's no point having then and didn't request any. Another colleague's cards arrived complete with his email address. "How did you get that agreed?". "I just edited the form and added another box" and they got printed

I’ve always wanted to say this.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

I used to know several people who lived there - and came from there

They said that is the name of a train station - the town is just Llanfairpwllgwyngyll
which it is also never called

in normal circumstances, they call is Lanfair
it that is confusing - this is Wales after all - then they call it Llanfair PG (PG in English even if they are speaking Welsh in most cases)

Yes, Llanfair PG is what I have heard it referred to as most often.

The placename is describing a location in a very convoluted way. Without googling it mentions iirc...

St. Mary's by a white pool and red caves, plus some other stuff I either never knew the translation of, or I've forgotten ~40 years after living in Dolgellau as a youngster for a few years.

Thanks for not telling me on the phone it would be cash only!!
I had to drive back home, find my card, find the only working cash point in town, then go back and pay. I’ll not be using you again, you tax dodging bunch of muppets 😾

To my mainly wonderful cycling friend:

You relocated from a warmer country to beautiful but freezing Scotland.
As an evangelical cyclist, I'd hope you wouldn't fly south 3* times a winter when the weather gets crappier in your new home.

*and thats just the trips I see on Facebook...

I've known you for 30 years, like you in many ways, had some good times...but ffs, will you not put your feelings first, just for once ?

My wife is in hospital with a stroke, barely opened her eyes or spoken in a week, almost coma like.
I visit every day, sometimes twice, look after two children, walk the dog, cook the meals etc etc etc...and one of the FIRST things you say when I get round to telling you 6 days later....in a slightly disappointed voice 'oh I thought you'd have rung me earlier'.

The church mentioned is (as I understand it) the one accessible via a local country park and is in the Menai Straights - We went there about 30 years ago and again about 15 years ago because it is a truly wonderful setting. We wonder if the graves in the churchyard have been or will become in danger due to the close proximity of the water.
