I am old enough to remember when the SDP were going to break the mould of British politics.

This isn't something I'd like to say but something that I would like to see. Some idiot dresses up as a bush and then jumps out at people. Just for once I'd like to see somebody hit him instead of jumping back.

Miserable sod! 😏
Granted, I'd never dream of doing that to anyone (well, a stranger anyway), but still, to punch someone for that? Jeezo, get a grip!

I have always sort of vaguely assumed a lot of these things are a set - up of some kind anyway.

The growing tendency to wish violence upon people for all sorts of things is quite disturbing, and one of the things that makes cycling in the UK a lot less safe than it would be otherwise. A lot of it might be joking, but it feeds into a generalised dehumanisation of various groups. See also "just run them over" re e.g. environmental protestors blocking a road

It happened to me in Exeter, and wasn't a set up. I was popular on YouTube for about ten minutes.

I found it hilarious.

For that one, a harmless good natured bit of fun, I agree. But there are quite a few stunts along those lines where the prankster genuine deserves a smack in mouth.

"You lot should be ashamed of yourselves!" is what I felt like shouting at a crowd gawping at the emergency services dealing with a serious RTA in the centre of Todmorden today. The mob were gossiping, taking photos, and videoing as some poor person was being tended to on a stretcher in the middle of the road by a team of paramedics. The car was on its side and badly smashed up so it had clearly been a big impact. No bloody respect or humanity from those spectators!

Hopefully, it wasn't as bad as it looked as I hurried on past. I haven't been able to find a news report yet.

I know - I have seen similar a few times

I do wonder about the syndrome where the more people are there the less likely it is that anyone will help

people are weird

Dear Google - the USA is not the origin of English, and does not own it!!

(I was watching a video on YouTube presented by an Englishman who was speaking a little slowly, so I went into Settings to speed it up. I saw a menu option to choose the Audio Track Language. Some options just had the name of the language e.g. Arabic. Others identified the mother country in brackets e.g. French (FR). It makes more sense to me to just name the language so I think English should be displayed as just English, but if the mother country is to be included then it should be English (ENG or GB or UK); definitely not English (US)!!)

Usually if the have the English(US) option, there is another for English (Int) for International.
And they aren't actually identifying the mother country for most of those, they are showing one of the options for that language.

They do that for things like spellcheckers or maybe subtitles, which does make sense since American spelling is different to ours. Funnily enough though, the language option for the Closed Captions was just 'English'!

This was just for the audio soundtrack. I object to an Englishman speaking English as apparently being considered to be speaking English (US). Just leave the 'US' off - it doesn't mean anything in that context!

I have seen some English speakers in the USA referring to the language that they speak as 'American', which irritates me even more!
