Thanks for all the advice here - found this very useful thread via recommendation from @Pat "5mph" elsewhere :thumbsup:

Does anybody have experience of both the Schwalbe Marathon Winter (700 x 35) and the Schwalbe Snow Stud (seems to be available only in size 700 x 38)mentioned earlier, and can compare the two? (whereas the Ice Spiker seems to be only available for MTB wheels)
I'm looking to get some ice tyres for my hybrid (700 x 35c currently), not sure there is space/clearance for a 38 ...

Depends. They can do, but wet leaf mulch is like mud. It will make any tyre slide around. Caution needed.

Yeah I guessed as much. There's a hoorin amount of leaves on one of the roads I have to cycle through, haven't ended up on my arse yet but it feels like it's coming!
