(Tiagra 4601) 10/9 speed derailleur compatibility

My ultegra 6600 derailleur broke and now I am looking for a replacement 9 speed derailleur. It seems that the only new 9 speed road derailleur shops have in stock is the Sora 3500. I'd like to get a Tiagra or above, which makes me wonder what other Shimano derailleurs will take a 9 speed chain. Any other suggestions?

I'd buy used, but I want to get my bike on the road asap.

I've just fitted the Sora with a medium cage to one of my bikes. It works great and provides the flexibility of being compatible with a larger rear cassette if required. I also found that Sora was the only 9 speed presently available. So cheap it wasn't worth hunting round for an alternative used item.
