Top tube bag attachment

I have purchased a Topeak Fuel tank (top tube bag) which has 3 velcro straps to attach to the top tube. However I have some cabling running under my top tube, so I'm not sure how the velcro should attach without interfering with these cables. I tried slotting it under the cabling, but the velcro has to go back on itself, so there is no room to fit two layers of velcro under the cabling. Any ideas? Thanks.

Also, if not one of these, where do cyclists carry their inner tubes etc., as I tried a carrier under the saddle, and this fell off, so I don't trust these types either now/

I'm not sure what type of bag it is, the saddle bag is secure I have a topeak one it has clips and velco strap which goes around the seat post

So I don't understand how the saddle bag fell

I previously had one that screwed under the saddle, and this one fell off. The one I am now having a problem with, is one that attaches to the top tube with two velcro straps with a third one round the head tube if that makes sense? Due to the cabling under the top tube, though, I don't know how to attach out without interfering with the cabling.

Oh ok I don't know about the screw ones I've seen them, can't you wrap it over the cabling? It'll stay on as it's also attached to head tube.

I have one. For triathlons. Just fasten the straps over the cables and they will work absolutely fine.

That's great, so to clarify it goes over the cabling. Can I ask if it is fastened quite tight, as I'm just worried about cabling, but at the same time I don't want the bag to loose that it moves?? Thank you.

My saddlebag - a Carradice CarraDura Mini - has two straps underneath which neatly fit a bagged spare inner tube.

I found these last month whilst checking the bike over and wondered what they were for . It's only taken me a year

And tri bags are great across the top tube for stuffing bits in. Mine'll have Jelly Babies, raisins and mini malt loaves on Sunday's sportive.

What's your worry with the cabling exactly? Fastened tightly give the break lever a tug and bobs your uncle

I use one on the hybrid. The two velcro straps on the top tube are really loose to let the cables do their stuff, and the one on the down tube is tight. Never had a problem. It wobbles a bit but works fine.

EDIT, sorry mine's a bit different. Two straps on the top tube and one on the down one.

if the cables are cased in outer cables it will be nigh on impossible to overtighten. Even if they aren't they will still slide to and fro without any problem

To be quite honest, if you are strapping this over cable housing then it will not compress sufficiently to affect the cable.

Even if you were strapping over bare cable then you would have to be pretty tight to cause any problems. I would be more worried abou the wire damaging the bag!

the small bags that fit under the saddle (for spare tubes) and just clip-in to a permanently fastened bracket, are well known to just fall off without the rider noticing, so you lose all your stuff! Get one that has velcro straps instead - these never fall off.

As for your Topeak fuel tank, I have one but I don't have any cables getting in the way. You really only have one option and that's to just put the straps over the top of the cable(s). If this casues a problem then you will have to consider other options for carrying stuff!
