Think he actually may have been let of the leash in the Vuelta last year, he gets a 4th place in the ITT stage 18, but that was for Decathlon where he (and they) might not have been all that bothered about saving energy to protect Gall's 7th place on GC

My best guess is that it was Del Toro's call. (and Pog was clear that he would always chase Jonas down if necessary, which I appreciate was irrelevant on Sunday ... )
; he chose that stage as is his best shot.

Meanwhile, I'm also in the camp thinking "Pog let Remco have that one." my theory being that it would have embarassed Del Toro if he'd won.
(with possibly a bit of "let's try to keep one fwend in the big teams, guys!"

Yep, pretty much. Del Toro obviously has his stage already though so it could have been justified that Pog helped him take time on white jersey contenders and had to go for it himself to stop Remco winning. I think there was possibly an element of him not wanting to be seen going all in on a stage where his main rival crashed out too.

Brandon McNulty had a crash into a car in warm up - apparently annoyed a driver (by existing I guess) who overtook then braked hard in front of him

Campenaerts rode it on a TT bike, but might as well not have bothered, same reason

Meanwhile, Kim Andersen (Trek DS) says UAE want the team comp. Trek have been leading it for most of the race, butt the tiem is down to 3 minutes or so now. This could cause bother with Trek trying to get Mads P & others into the break tomorrow.
