Dumb question time, I've not been concentrating properly. Does every rider in the team get the time of the first rider (provided they finish). Or does each rider get their own time?

They have changed it to the latter. in the Vuelta 25 it was everyone got time of 4th placed rider in team (as has been te case for an GTs that have run a TTT of late. The TdeF26 it will be everyone's individual finish times, so gives a choice of tactics on run into the finish, which is not flat! either stick together or get someone to do one last sacrificial effort and then your GC hopeful(s) power off the front

Get out early and depending where you are staying descend via the sarenne or that descent I linked to and ride up the Alpe. take your time because you will be being cheered on by the spectators and bound to be others cycling up there. might even get 2 days riding in so you could descend, turn left and ride to eg les Deux Alpes if you have time or just the route I mentioned in reverse
I'd recommend nipping across Bourg and riding to Villard Notre Dame as well. In terms of length and gradient, it's identical to the Alpe but you go up a wonderful balcony road instead.

As if I would have any other speed going uphill lol

Ah well, some idiot monumentally stuffed (insert far more venomous words!) up. In my excitement of trying to book something, I had used the stage numbers as the dates as opposed to the actual dates.

And of course, there's nothing available now, at least affordable to me.

To say I'm crestfallen is an understatement
