Which is weird, really, because no-one outside the top ten is really fussed. I've always mentally equated the prestige of a stage win with top-6 on GC.
I'd never heard of Jordan Jegat until just before this year's Tour, when I looked at last year's GC results. Totally anonymous!
You mean you didn't know the winner of the 6th Classic Grand Besançon Doubs (1.1) this year? Shocking.
I think while he may have been very pleased with his tenth on GC last year, he only sneaked in at the expense of Ben O'Connor on stage 20, having been in a couple of breaks (inc. stage 20) , so while he may have been quite familiar to break-watchers during the Tour he wasn't necessarily someone to remember.
O'Connor obviously won a stage, so I doubt he was all that upset about it
I think if you get a top ten by hanging with the GC boys for as long as possible you're more likely to be remembered, and more likely to demonstrate you're worth a new contract and your team is worth its sponsorship
