Following the recent deflation of my hopes to do LeJog (mate pulled out and the fact it was a linear route), I have a new cunning plan.

Ride to York, catch a train to Newcastle, catch a ferry to Hamburg, ride south till Deutschland is no more, then turn West, and follow the Rhein RadWeg from Lake Constance all the way to Rotterdam, catch the ferry to Hull (Kingston Upon) and ride the 20 miles home.

A rough estimate is that it is about 1600 miles all in, and the last 900 or so are all downhill. I have provisionally got 6 weeks off work, but would hope to do it in about 4.

I will do it alone if I have to, but any takers are welcome to hop on board.

Discuss. ;)

Ich bin Powerfrau!
Not sure when you're doing this but I'm doing the Mosel & Rhein Radwege from end of May to first two weeks in June.

Are you sure there is a ferry between Newcastle and Hamburg?
Be wary of ferry ticket agents who fail to keep their websites up to date when routes are ceased.;)

Unless you have already planned a specific route I would suggest using the following established routes:

a. Hamburg - Bremen

b. Weser Route (Bremen - Hannoversche Munden)

c. Fulda Route (HM as far as about Hettenhasuen then over the Rhon hills to the Sinn valley)

d. Down the Sinn to the Main.

e. Down the Main to Wertheim.

f. Romantische Strasse as far as Donauworth

g. Danube Route to as far as Laiz,

h. Schwabisch route to L Konstanz.

i. Rhine route to Rotterdam.

No, I wasn't and there isn't.

Hull to Rotterdam, and a train to Hamburg will get me to the start.

Thanks for that, it looks great, and easy enough to follow.

Always better to know these things before you get to the quayside.
Sounds like an interesting route, have fun.
I followed the Elbe from Hamburg to Cz a few years ago, that was good.

Yeah, Doh....! I though the Geordie tub went to Hamburg?? Never mind though, Hull (Kingston upon) to Rotterdam, train to Bremen, then follow the route suggested by Andyinsig.

When I get to Bavaria I'm going for a couple of days in Oberstdorf, then onto lake Constance and follow the Rhine home.

Is your European Health Card (formerly known as E111) up to date and passport?
Carefull with the health card we tried to use ours in Berlin and were told it was expired by German rules, whereas the GB authorities said it was valid.
In Germany, German rules are more important than UK ones.
